“Amazing 4 star property!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2007

Beautiful resort. 15 minute drive into town. Everything was perfect. You should go ! Have no second thoughts. Restaraunt on premises good, but a little pricey. Golfing was expensive, but my husband and son enjoy playing 36 holes. On the second 18 holes they were only charged $35. Shopping is good. Was able to hunt down some loose Tahitian pearls. If interested, purchase pearls at the jewelry store by Starbucks, not in the center of town. The downtown pearls are A quality and run $800 a piece for 11mm. I purchased B quality 12mm Tahitian pearls for only $55 each. Big Difference !! Anyways, have FUN on your journey !

Fred and Bonnie's condo is very clean and spacious. The condo also comes complete with snorkel and beach gear (including a cooler) which is great. It is near the pool which is great for the kids. The Kona Coast Resort has nicely maintained grounds.

In general, Kona Coast Resort is excellent. We have stayed there many times without incident. This last rental, however, was deplorable.

My trip concern. The condo that was rented was in very poor shape. We paid a very premium price. I feel we were taken and am not happy. I have a concern turned into the Hawaii Better Business Bureau. I am hoping that this is all it will take to find a resolutino to our issue. The agency that rented it to us is not a member of the BBB so I am not holding my breath.

This is a practice complaint that will be updated if resolution is not determined. The real estate renting this and the unit number will be withheld. As a last resort, I will post all information here.

Several pictures showing items of disappointment are attached.

We were in unit 25-203 an upstairs condo unit looking over the golf course and the GORGEOUS ocean!!! I would redecorate if I had my condo there wall paper outdated and peeling in some places, but it was always clean and easy to get around. The main pool is great. The poolside pub had amazing food and a coconut/mac-nut shake that was TO DIE FOR! I miss them already and we have been home 23 hours!
The condo is THE nicest of all the ones we visited... near the shopping center, righ up the road from great beaches! fun farmer's markets... shopping and for dinner Don the Beachcomber is less than a mile away... WOW, talk about wonderful!
Ali'i drive is a big L shape...The Kona Coast is near the middle ot the L... close to the highway (5 minutes), close to loads of entertainment, wonderful staff too. Everyone wishes you good morning, asks how you are, the ALOHA mentality I craved!
Sunset walk to the coast line across the golf course (illegal but we all did it) Sit by an amazing blow hole and take in the sights, sounds, and smell of PARADISE. Meet your neighbors or spend loads of time alone... it is up to you!
The Kona Coast Resort made my husband and two teenage boys so happy... I feel blessed to have been at home there for 8 glorius days, not nearly long enough!
Watch cruise ships pass by in the morning sun, feed the amazing birds and had a chorus of birds every morning, Follow a path and find wild bananas growing up and down the path with wild geckos chirping with the excitement of the evening! (did you know bananas are the world's largets herb? you do now!)
Try SUNRISE DONUTS at the shopping center... BLOWS Krispy Kreemes and Dunkin Donuts away baby!!! Be warned orange juice is VERY expensive... go pineapple if you can and save loads!
It is now your turn to experience paradise....
I called 24 hours before checkout to the front dest to ask for an extention from the 10am check out... I was kindly greeted with a noon check out. Please remember to be kind to fellow travelers and staff... it is sad to see some people ruin their vacation whining and not taking the time to see where they are! ENJOY!! The Kona Coast is my NEW home away from home as of today!!! We'll be back, not soon enough, but we'll be back. MAHALO!!!

  • Liked — it's a condo for the pirce of a hotel! What's not to love???

Fred and Bonnie's condo is fabulous! It is large and the layout is great. Our younger kids could watch TV in their room upstairs while the adults peacefully socialized on the Lanai or in the Living Room.

Our friends stayed in the newer section of the Kona Coast Resort and they were cramped and dark. Fred and Bonnies's place was the opposite.

if you are seriously considering Fred and Bonnie's Condo do not hesitate, book it. It is an excellent value and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed at the Kona Coast Resort at the end of January and had a terrific stay. We were in the 2nd phase and were in building 17 on the 3rd floor. Our unit was a very spacious 2 bedroom, that had been recently renovated in a Tommy Bahama theme. We had a really large balcony with a nice teak table and chairs and we ate dinner out there all the time. The kitchen was well stocked and there were 3 barbeques right outside our building. There were 2 pools and while they were busy, we always found space for the 4 of us. The restaurant was nice to have - we had breakfast there once and lunch a couple of times. The location was great - grocery store and golf course was nearby, and the village of Kona was only about a 10-15 minute drive.

I work in the hotel industry and I would give this resort a solid 4 star rating.

We traded our week through Interval International - who claims this property (both Kona I and Kona II) 5 star. We stayed in Kona I - the older side. It is in major need of renovation - and I'm very disappointed in granting them 5 star status with the things I saw. Rusting sinks, broken tiles and cabinets, a stove-top fan that would not turn off - and maintenance never came to fix it, a panel on the microwave was missing. The condo itself is decent - very spacious and comfortable...but really should not be awarded this status thorugh Interval International - especially as it needs some major renovations/face lift. Location is good. ***Please note, the resort refers you to the nearest grocery store - about 1/4 away at hte Keahou Shopping Center. Do not go there! It's rediculously over-priced, even for Hawaii, and there is not selection. There is a Safeway a few miles up Route 11, as well as a Wal-Mart next to the Safeway. I would recommend - as long as you can stay in Kona II - or once they renovate...assuming they know how bad things are falling apart.
