We had heard this was a spectacular activity. Pictures of acrobatic rays close enough to touch had us really excited. Unfortunately, the rays took the night off. We saw 3 of them swim by in the distance along the bottom, but that was it.
We thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. We had never been snorkeling at night. It was beautiful in the water, and the crew made sure that it was a very pleasant and especially safe experience. Since the rays are not trained animals, no one can command them to show up, and the night before there had been 11 of them. We found it to be such a great idea of an experience that we will definitely go back and count on the rays to show up this time.
The crew was very informative and conscious of our safety all the time. I would agree that they got a little silly and loud on the way back. I guess it's the "hang loose" approach to life. They certainly won't keep us away.
By the way, don't bother looking for it ahead of time. They bring the boat on a trailer just before the tour.
