“Twilight Volcano Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Hawaii Forest and Trail gives an outstanding tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The group was limited to 12 and the guide, Chris, was friendly, informative and a great story-teller. Our 12- hour tour included important and also lesser known sites in the park. Amenities were excellent:good food , rain jackets, cold weather jackets, flashlights, and even lap blankets for the drive back to Kona in the evening.

“Great waterfall hike.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

Our guide Chris was so informative. We learned so much about the island that we had never heard before. The views of the valley were gorgeous and we were able to see a lot of waterfalls and actually swim in a private waterfall pool.

“Twilight Volcano Tour”

This was worth every dollar we spent. Our guide, Justin, made us feel like we were long lost friends and he was the BEST guide. Smart and knowledgeable about the Big Island and so personable. We visited out-of-way places that "the others" might not ever see. Lunch and dinner was provided...and really very good too! We were picked up and dropped off at the Hilton Waikola Resort. The entire trip was AWESOME and I would go again even if this was a once in a lifetime trip!

“Twilight Volcano Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

The twilight volcano tour is a great way to get a taste of the Big Island. Justin picked us up right at our hotel, and we began our journey. We stopped at the saddle between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. We drove through Hilo and on to the Volcanos National Park. We did side hikes to see the crater rim, the lava tube, and finally the sunset viewing of the lava glow from the visitor's center. We had a great dinner at the arches along the shore where the latest lava flow is entering the ocean. We could see the steam / smoke from the lava off in the distance, but it was a 7 mile one-way hike to see the lava up close and we knew in advance we weren't going to do that. Throughout the trip, Justin regaled us with a fantastic intertwining of the current sights with the historical perspective and stories from Hawaiian lore. Justin's storytelling was compelling and well-rehearsed, tied perfectly to the sights we were seeing at the time. Justin also adjusted the timing of the trip to make sure we got to the right spots at the right times regarding weather, crowds, and sunset. We enjoyed all the sights and activities, but to be honest Justin made this into a more meaningful and memorable tour. Hawaii Forest and Trail also provide great meals sourced from local caterers. As my kids say, they "thought of everything" from warm towels to hiking sticks, flashlights, backpacks, and even hot water for cocoa after dinner.

“Bloomin' WiliWili”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

My husband and I spent a fabulous day learning about the WiliWili trees and the great work of the Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative. Our guide from Hawaii Forest and Trail (Robert) was perfect and kept us all happy and inspired. The staff from the Dry Forest Initiative had a full day of instruction, facility tour and we even got to plant our own young plants to help with the restoration. We will certainly be back to volunteer with these folks. I commend Hawaii Forest and Trail with setting up these special tours with local groups (in celebration of their 20th anniversary year) and am hoping to participate in many more.
