A bit of a misnomer -- this is a long tour (11 hours) leaving at about 10AM and returning at 9PM. The tour includes driving over the saddle road from the west side of the island. A picnic lunch and a picnic dinner are included. The guides we've had are excellent (this is the second time we've done this trip). There is a stop at one of the less frequented lava tubes (which is a much better choice than the Thurston tube at the national park, along with an extended stay at the Volcano National Park. Because the excursion stays past sundown, you get to see the crater in daylight and at night -- which can be awesome.
One note for folks visiting Hawaii, while at sea level you have temperatures in the low 80's during the day and 60's in the evenings, the Volcano National Park at Kilauea is at 4500 feet and quite a bit cooler -- it can be windy as well -- so it isn't a 'shorts, T-shirts' sort of trip.
This tour strikes me as something of a bargain -- though it isn't low cost (figure about $180) as it includes all admissions and two meals plus the guided tour, and is an all day activity.
