“Manta "Wow"!”

We went on a night snorkel to look at manta rays with Captain Carl & Sean. What an amazing trip. Coral Reef Snorkel Adventures takes small groups (our group was 4) to the manta dive/snorkel site. They give you very personalized attention & are very knowledgeable about the mantas. Then the snorkel... oh my. Sean took the group out & guided through the excursion. He was great; the mantas were great. Highly recommend this company and their approach! Thank you guys!

“Manta Ray Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

My son and I went on the Manta Ray trip with Captain Karl and Manta whisperer Sean. The seas were rough but they made sure our experience was awesome! Karl gave us a briefing on what to expect of the rays and how to behave in the water. Sean made sure we were in the right place for the best views. The mantas were so impressive and swam right up to us!
Safety and fun were the important things for the crew. I highly recommend this trip!

“awesome time with the mantas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

i booked the night snorkel trip to see the mantas. there were only a total of 4 (they take a max of 6) in our group that night. sean and captain carl took great care of us. they gave us lots of info on what to expect from the mantas and answered all our questions. i chose this boat tour because of their small size. i've had lots of experience in the past of being in big boats with lots of tourists and being herded around like cattle. my experience with CRA was much better! they knew each of us by name and was able to give us individualized attention getting in/out of our gear, as well as while we were in the water.

CRA's gear was great, much better than our rented ones. although, i feel like the wetsuits are not necessary since the water was not cold at all (but then i have a higher tolerance to cold than most people). once we got into the water, we only had to swim ourselves maybe 20-30 yards, then sean had us hold onto a ring that he would pull around -- minimal work on our part and we were able to focus on the mantas below. sean was able to get us pretty much on top of the campfire, but away from the big big crowds of snorkelers from other boats.

we saw 11 mantas! they got really close to us and i credit sean for taking us in the middle of the manta-action.

probably my only complaint was that it felt like we were in the water a short time. we were out there an hour but it felt much much shorter. but then again, i'm a snorkeling fiend and probably could've stayed there all night.

on the way back to the harbor, our boat ended up towing a sailboat with a failed engine. i thought it was pretty cool for sean and capt carl to do that. i did not mind the slight delay at all.

i did all my booking through capt. ron. although i never got to meet him during the trip, props to him for having a wife who makes delicious brownies!

“Manta Ray Majic in Kona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012 via mobile

Our group enjoyed a wonderful Manta Ray adventure thanks to Shawn/Sean and Carl. Awesome personal attention for each one of us. Watching the mantas gracefully glide through the water as they do their dinner ballet was more than we could have hoped for. A must do here in Kona

“Dolphins, Education, and Responsible Guidance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

How can another human tell the rest of the world about a DNA-changing experience? Let me begin with the people involved: Captain Carl and Cheryl the Dolphin Swim Guide were the most intelligible and responsible Captain and Crew I have met in my many experiences with wildlife tours. From their initial greeting to their safety briefing to their constant awareness of environmental and personal safety you are treated to the pinnacle of what wildlife tourism should be. Captain Carl's fervent care for the ocean he is allowed to practice his trade on was plainly evident in his skill piloting and educating. It became obvious that he cared as much for the animals as he did his crew and his charter (us). We (my children and I) were exposed to a rigid respect for the dolphins that was not evident in the other tourist's guides as those guides allowed for behaviors, such as chasing the dolphins, loud noises, and even attempts to touch the animals we had the great pleasure to be amongst. My children were exposed to environmental responsibility in its highest form and reinforced years of preaching on my part.
The dolphins, well given that Captain Carl and Cheryl were intent on ensuring we got the best experience possible, we could not have asked for more. After a few attempts to "see" them in the water and to swim out where we could expect them to pass by, the good Captain and Crew maintained a intelligent and respectful approach until we were literally in the fray of this magnificent pod of spinner dolphins. Humans have always had an sort of untenable experience with the ocean. Our machines, our wits, our devices and our desire to persevere on and in the ocean are quickly diminished to paltry attempts when you suddenly realize that we will never know this domain the way these beautiful, intelligent creatures do. That we get even a glimpse of their behavior, their undersea world, their magnificence and beauty as they glide along effortlessly is a tribute to this fine Captain and Crew's intrepid efforts to educate, gently guide and maintain respect for all of the creatures under the sea.
No one can tell you how you will feel. No one can tell you what "you" will see in this experience, but it would be a crying shame if you missed those feelings and sights in the course of your lifetime. My two boys have not stopped talking about how they feel having had this incredible journey, and my only regret is that we didn't stay longer. --Bryan Bear Barber
