“Great value, Great location, Beautiful home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2010

We stayed 2 nights in the Plumeria room and had a great time. Dean was a pleasure to talk to/share ideas with and he had some good recomendations for places to eat at. There was a bit of road noise in this room, which was kind of annoying at first, but we got used to it. Walking distance to Ali'i drive, but is on a bit of a hill, so we chose to drive instead. BEAUTIFUL HOME ! Brand new, great bright colors, and exceptionally clean. They've done a great job! We had the use of boogie boards, towels, umbrellas as well. Dean brought us some apple bananas one night while we sat on the patio which was a really nice gesture. I would definately recommend staying at this vacation rental ... Its so close to everything and you can't beat the price!! If you have any direct questions, please feel free to send me a message !
Mahalo Dean !

My husband and I had a wonderful time at your vacation home last week. It is so clean and well kept; I can honestly say we felt right at home. Between your recommendations on local restaurants and beaches to the actual beach towels, coolers, chairs and wonderful boogie boards!! Your home is beautiful and we especially enjoyed our stay in the Tiki room. It was perfect for a couples get away. So cozy and tropical, after five days it was exactly what we needed to refresh from daily life! Thank you for your hospitality at the Kona Hula Girl

We will be recommending The Kona Hula Girl vacation home to our friends and WE will be back too!!

Mahalo!

My wife and I stayed with Dean & Sherrie in April for 7 nights. Immediately upon arriving we loved the Tiki Room, and were very impressed by the grounds! We try to avoid the resorts and stay in B&B type places. We enjoy interacting with local proprietors off of the beaten path. While not technically a B&B (a breakfast is not provided) the accommodations feel intimate and well appointed. Kona Hula Girl is located within a 5 min drive (15 min walk) from the main drag (Alii Drive), farmer's market, and highway access. All of the rooms are accessed from the exterior, with their own private entries. The Tiki Room is on the second floor of the 'turret' facing a large swath of trees. Be prepared to be serenaded by the local birds every morning. We loved it! The room has a kitchenette, complete with full sized fridge, microwave, sink, and dishes (no oven or cook top). This was perfect for us, as we are divers and like to keep fresh fruit and snacks to make our own breakfast in the morning prior to heading out for an AM dive trip. The room does not have any windows, only screens and shutters. The climate on this part of the island is very consistent, and does not require them (temperatures range from 21C at night to 26C in the day). We would close the shutters during the day and open them wide at night for a nice light breeze. Although we did not make use of them, Dean & Sherrie provided boogie boards, a small cooler, beach chairs, & a bicycle for our use. They even lent us a blender for our morning shakes! We are divers and loved the convenient location to Jack's Dive Locker. We enjoyed the freedom that the Kona Hula Girl gave us. We felt like guests and not part of a mob of tourists. A great home base for your exploration of the western part of the island.

First off this is not a bed and breakfast it is a vacation rental and a very sweet one at that!If you go to their website, you will see 4 different units to choose from. We stayed in the Tiki Room. It was a little on the tiny side but immaculately cared for. The owners do a wonderful job taking care of it. It is about 1/2 mile from Alli Drive and all it's shopping. We were lent boogie boards, beach chairs, beach mats and beach towels, and even offered a cooler.
Because there is no glass, just screens for windows, you will hear occasional street noise, and you will hear other occupants from time to time. All in all this is a real find. Dean and Sherri really take pride in making this a nice rental

I feel the need to quote Coldplay on this one. First of all, the Kona Hula Girl is yellow...and a beautiful shade of it I might add. Then there was our room, The Plumeria Room. Bright and sunny! The windows open up on the front and side to let it the afternoon sunshine and a beautiful view of the Pacific. We sometimes had a hard time leaving the room because it was just so lovely...and extremely clean. The attention to detail was also amazing. Everything you need is right there...soap, check...toaster, check...cutting board, check...you get the idea...couldn't have asked for more! If you have an extended stay, this is the place, a home away from home! Dean and Sherri were amazing. They are such great people and very helpful and friendly with sunny dispositions. All and all just awesome...always available for anything you might need. And then there were those beautiful hibiscus flowers...the largest I have ever seen...and of course, yellow.

Kona Hula Girl was wonderful! Brand new; clean; tastefully decorated; only a 5-10 minute walk to the town; friendly, helpful owners; comfy bed; kitchenette, etc. We used this as a base from which to travel the rest of the Big Island. The only thing we might warn you about is that it's right next to the road and you will hear traffic - but that never interfered with a great night's sleep - waking up to the sound of birds and the sight of the ocean and plumeria blossoms! We highly recommend this place!!
Thanks Dean and Sherri.

The rooms were just so stylish and beautifully decorated with all the amenities one can imagine.Spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished! The good thing was, that the windows were screened so that we were not bugged by any insects at all.A relief!!
Its near to a public small, white, sandy beach and to shops and restaurants.
The lovely couple who run the place were supernice and helpful!
It is self-catering of the highest standard!
Go for it!
