“Can be a great local beach.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

You have to say "can be" because the magic of Magic Sands is that heavy surf can wash out all the sand, Sometimes it is a couple of weeks before it comes back. There is a lot more parking than there use to be a few years ago, so now the beach gets more crowded. The waves can be deceptively strong here. Do not body surf or boogie board here unless you really know what you are doing and are adept at maneuvering as there can be exposed lava rocks on the beach. Crystal clear waters and lots of sea turtles here. Remember not to touch the sea turtles.

“A small beach for bodyboarding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

My two kids aged 7 and 9 enjoyed the beach very much. First time bodyboarding here. The beach is narrow with nice sand and has a restroom facility. The waves were strong. Not for beginner swimmers.

“Fun, but too many dirt bags for me and my kids!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

This beach was a lot of fun for my 16 year old. The surf was great for boogie boarding and the snorkeling was good too. There seemed to be a lot of people smoking cigarettes for sure and marijuana as well. The smokers were not out in the open, but they were there, you could smell them. We did have fun though, the water was great. I didn't think the beach was dirty as others have described. The beach at mile post marker 69 was the best for us.

“Kua Bay Beach Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Kua Bay Beach is a gorgeous white sand beach surrounded by lava rocks. Its location and warm clear waters are absolutely amazing. You can find there turtles swimming close buy. Its parking area is still being developed but the beach itself is a paradise.
To get there: The beach is not marked on the road 19 at all, so it is difficult to find it. You have to drive north of Kailua-Kona pass the airport. Right after the Kekaha Kai State Park you will see a double hill on the left side of the road and a side road leading to it. On the other side of the main road you will see sign for the veterans cemetary. Turn left towards the hills and drive to the parking lot. Park and enjoy the beach.
