When we arrived at the Pu'ukala Lodge, really two cinder block basement rooms, we were told there had been a slight plumbing leak. We were shown the King Kameamea Suite which had a very strong chemical, cleaning solution smell. Acting in good faith, we opened up the windows and doors to try to make our reservation work. After less than an hour in the room, my eyes were stinging and I felt sick to my stomach from the smell. The most polite in our party went to find the owners to tell them we had a problem. The owners were told there was a problem with the room and that we couldn't stay as it was. Instead of responding with concern, the owners told us that if we didn't want to be on their property, we should leave. They told us to get out! Incredibly, they told us they were going to charge our credit card for our anticipated two nights stay.
The "Lodge" suites are nothing more than dark, basement rooms with little charm or hospitality. The owners were RUDE and MEAN. Do not stay here!!
