Kona Village is hands down my favorite place in the world, but mind Kona is not for everyone. I am fourteen years old and I have a 22 year old brother. My family have been going since my brother was 1. Living in LA, most of my friends stay at the four seasons right next door. They have no idea what they are missing out on! Such an unpretentious environment. You can stay on the beach all day and walk back to your hale on torch-lit roads instead of taking an elevator up to your floor and walking down carpeted, commercial hotel hallways like EVERY other hotel. That is not Hawaii! Many people have talked about how the rooms are outdated. I do not have this problem at all, BUT I have stayed in P1 on the private beach every time I have gone to Kona village (which is almost every year) except for my most recent trip which was this June. I stayed across from where I usually stay, in M6 and even though it was not a royal room it was still great and clean and the only downgrade was the size. This is how I spend my day at Kona..
Wake up, walk to breakfast eat DELICIOUS fresh papaya and sliced fruit.
Get my bathing suit on and head down to the beach. I snorkel in the morning because the water is clearer and it is easier to see all the beautiful, colorful fish. Then I read and tan until lunch time. The lunch buffet is my favorite! Fresh sashimi and ginger, salad bar, hot food, and grilled fish, and other delicious food! Then for the rest of the afternoon I go to the pool, sit on a hammock on the little strip of beach RIGHT by the water. I love to swim out to the raft ( I do not understand when people say that the ocean is not good for swimming, gentle waves, warm water, and if you get in the water closer to beach shack there are no rocks whatsoever! It is perfect!) then my family heads down to the shipwreck bar right before it closes and I get a cookie monster and popcorn. So good! Then we go back to the hale (sometimes I'll stop at a hammock along the way and watch the sunset and read my book) and get ready for dinner. Then we enjoy an amazing five course dinner!I am not the one paying the bills, so of course that is not a con for me, as it is for many other people on this site, but I think you go knowing that you will be spending a significant amount of money, and just to enjoy your time there! The only time my family has not gone to Kona during the summer was when we took our trips to Europe, and when we tried a cruise and Italy. I have traveled to a lot of luxury hotels but Kona has a special place in my heart. If you want to go the pool dripped in diamonds, go over to the four seasons. If you want to truly relax Kona is the place for you.
