“Love this place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

This is our third time staying at Aston Kona. This year we stayed in 308, a two bedroom oceanfront. We love this place since it is centrally located, the condos are comfortable, and the staff is helpful and friendly. I didn't give this a five star because we had issues with the people in the condo above us. We love this place because it's quiet, so we were surprised on our Friday night starting around 10:15 when the residents above us started partying on their lanai. This went on several hours. I didn't report it since the office was already closed. When I talked with the office staff the next day they apologized and said if this would happen again to call the night guard who was available for these problems. Everything else was perfect. They have a lovely pool and nice grills. I also love having the washer and dryer in the unit. We'll be back again.

This place is AMAZING! Sarah was just terrific and found us a stunning condo with an absolutely jaw dropping view! We walked into this gorgeous condo, went to the balcony and literally the whole family dropped their bags and stared in disbelief! The ocean was literally right in front of our balcony complete with the top surfers on the island riding wave after wave and we had front row seats! Waves come up onto these really interesting natural black lava rocks and then just beyond that the hotel has created a nice little sandy beach with lounge chairs and a beautiful pool complete with barbecues ready for the guests to use; all under majestic swaying palm trees! I literally thought we had stumbled into a paradise postcard! Just beyond the pool is a natural stone pool right on the edge of the ocean fed exclusively by the water from the sea as it crashes over the edge! At night there are low and discreetly placed flood lights shining out on the waves providing yet another dramatic view of the ocean to enjoy from your balcony. The condo itself was really comfortable, bright and cheery. It also had every kitchen tool you could need as well as daily fresh towels of every kind AND a washer and dryer right in the condo. If you are looking for a heavenly place to vacation with a killer ocean view, be able to do your own cooking and also still have daily maid service (yippee!) this is the place for you. We went all over the island sightseeing and saw some wonderful places, but were never more happy each day then when we were kicking back and eating dinner on our Aston Kona balcony! Our thanks to all the Aston Kona staff especially all the kind gals at the front desk!

We arrived here for a one night stay from a resort down the road. Aston Kona had previously been booked by our travel agent. Accomodation was very basic and not what we had been expecting. We were on the 4th floor and elevators were broken. We asked the person on the front desk to call a taxi for us and she told us she would give us the number and to call ourselves! Some back and forth before she called them ourselves. Wifi didn't work in our room - woman at the front desk waived the daily fee for us which was nice.

Good place to stay if you want something basic and to be able to cook your own meals etc. Room that we had was nice enough, comfy couch etc. We were three 30 year old girls looking for a relaxing beach holiday and envisaged sitting by the pool sipping cocktails. If this is what you are after find somewhere else.

On a seperate note, the lady working on the Expedia desk in the lobby was very nice and incredibly helpful!

We apreciate the opportunity to improve our services and product. We sincerely apologize that our service was not up to your expectations. We have new hires that I will personally address calling a taxi for you instead of giving a number. We hope the elevator was not a great inconvenience. A one night stay is not long enough to truly appreciate Kona by the Sea I am confident if you give us another opportunity we can provide that great stay you expected.

We hope you return soon.

After few terrible days in rental vacation home in Volcano in the middle of nowhere, tired by constant raining, this hotel was like a band-aid for our wounds... Quiet hotel by the ocean with a small beach (with green turtles), huge apartment with 2 bedrooms, big living room, fully equiped kitchen, 2,5 bathrooms, washer and dryer and big terrace. It was very relaxing stay! This hotel is close to many stores (grocery and Walmart), so there is no problem with buying anything we needed. Huge parking lot undergroud.

Lovely spot with nice pool and whirlpool. Our Two bedroom condo had great view of beach and ocean. Attached outdoor balcony was a wonderful spot for morning coffee while watching the serf roll in.

Check in staff were very friendly and even found a bottle of red wine for us when we asked where we could buy wine.

We have lost count of the number of times that we have stayed at Kona by the Sea. It is refreshing to return to familiar surroundings, even if we are never sure which unit we will be assigned. We always request a 2BR ocean front for the added advantage of more room and a bedroom with an ocean view. Like some of the reviewers have noted, the quality of the units vary. Some owners have remodeled and upgraded their units. Others seem less interested in the ambiance and you will find older furnishings. You may request specific condos when you make your reservations, but keep in mind that there are no guarantees. Only once over the years have we chosen to relocate and waited overnite for a nicer unit to vacate. We can't say enough about the friendliness & helpfuless of the staff. They definitely have the Aloha spirit that draws us back to the Big Island year after year. If you are a first timer, Laura Huntington, the onsite Expedia Local Expert, will give you great advice about things to see and do, places to go and the best luaus...because of course, you will want to go to a luau!

Room Tip: if you like to fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean, the 2BR units on the third and fourth levels...

Unfortunately you are correct we cannot guarantee a particular unit but we will do our best to make sure we find one you will like. Diversity does make it possible to make a home away from home.

Mahalo for your loyalty and expect to be of service for many more years to come.

We arrived late at the airport and easily found our way here in the dark. The friendly security guard gave us our temporary key, we found a readily available luggage cart, and trekked up the elevator to our room, #217. It had a lovely, breezy, open concept, with large French doors opening from the master bedroom to the living room, and open kitchen with breakfast bar, and a master bathroom open to the bedroom with a window opening. Large balcony accessed by living room or bedroom doors. Good-sized second bedroom with twin beds. The place was clean enough, but not spotless, and the kitchen was adequately stocked, but not amazing. The real treat came in the morning when we awoke to a sunrise over the ocean, a perfect view of the pool and hot tub, and the pounding surf treating our senses to a feast of relaxing bliss! We could watch the surfers tackle the waves, which broke with force on the breakwater affronting our hotel. It was super relaxing to lie on the recliner tucked into the corner of the lanai (gets full sun pretty much all day) and be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. Surf is high at this location, so no good ocean swimming and minimal sand, but enough for our kids to build a sand castle. Amenity fee of $12.50/day included free wifi in room only (not on pool deck or lobby), as well as a cool kiosk where you can rent a DVD for use in the room's playstation system. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lobby concierge desk was staffed by an Expedia Local Expert, who was amazing. She gave me endless info about where to go on the island, great shopping spots, where the best malasadas are found (Tex's by Honoka'a -- made fresh to order in front of your eyes!), and so much more. This hotel was solid and gave us a great start to our trip.

Room Tip: Room 217 was fine. Right on the end overlooking the pool. Easy access to the elevator. Great floor p...
