A cool old place kept very clean by the managers and a nice lady named Vanessa. The managers/hosts go above the call and are super people. A place where you can sit by the pool, read a book (say some 50's type novel) and just drift off in time. The atmosphere gets people to chat at breakfast and soon you have dinner friends.
Not a place if you need a TV or have to have every amenity. I like the kitchenettes.

Kona Tiki is definitely one of the best deals in Kona, if you like an authentic slow-lane experience. Great location-right on the water! Delicious continental breakfast. Quiet, slow-paced. Helpful staff. Squeaky-clean----they even scrub the INSIDE of the BBQ grills daily! I'd definitely stay here again.

We stayed there for 5 nights and had a great experience! It's not a huge hotel, but we preffer places like that (I think you can learn more about the culture of the place where you are)
Room: it is not big, but in Kona the weather is always great, so you’ll need just a place to sleep. All rooms have balcony, the view is gorgeous! We had a room at the ground floor. Great bathroom, everything really clean. There is no TV, but we didn’t miss it. In fact, I think it was better they don’t have a TV, so you can enjoy the sound of the waves on the rocks. Sometimes I woke up scared with the sound (so strong at night and at high tide) but I got used to that.
Staff: I just got disappointed with one attendant at the day we arrived. I asked her about maps for beaches and local attractions and she said I could find it at Wallmart... In general people were really nice, especially a man that was always talking to us at the breakfast time and giving us hints about the beaches (unfortunately I don’t remember his name). They have a tradition really nice every day after sunset: they invite the guests to light the torches at the pool and at the hotel entrance and to make a noise with a big shell.
Breakfast: Simple but really great continental breakfast, with fruits (papayas, pineapple and bananas), bread, bagels, coffee, tea, milk, bread, some jelly and cream cheese. I just missed the option to have warm milk, and our room did not have a microwave. The breakfast is served at the pool, fronting the sea; we could see dolphins almost every morning! They also put Hawaiian songs, so wake up and just get into the Aloha spirit! I also did not like that everything is served in disposable plates and cups. The hotel has the politic of recycling and saving water (they suggest that you use the same towel more than one day to help the environment). I don’t think that using disposable things and generating so much trash are the best to the environment, but this is something really personal.
Location: Front sea, less than 1km to downtown. The parking lot is small, pay attention if you have a big car, like us! There is no space for everybody, but at late night you can park in front of the dumpster. Don’t worry, the staff is really nice and will give you all the instructions.
Definitely would stay there again! Great room, nice pool area, and great staff!

I booked this hotel using trip advisor myself while on the island. The price was right and so was the review. This hotel is very close to the road and therefore is a little noisy. The positive is that the sound of the crashing waves may be louder, not sure if is is a good thing. It took me a few nights to get use to the sounds. There are no tv's here and I thought it was quite relaxing at this point in my trip. Even if there were tv's the crashing waves would be louder anyways. The owners here are very hardworking and the cleanliness reflects that. The continental breakfast was good and was very enjoyable while sitting Oceanside and watching the cruise ships arriving and surfers surfing. Parking is tricky since the parking lot is very small but since the hotel is close to all the restaurants you can walk everywhere. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: This place is small and all rooms have an amazing view. The ground floor may be a little less privat...

Our second stay here. Incredible ocean spot. Loved hearing the crash of the waves (although some might find them too loud I suppose). Adequate breakfast-fruit, bread, peanut butter for protein. A walk to the shops on Alii only takes 20-30 minutes. Looking forward to staying here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Kona Tiki for 2 nights when visiting Kona. Although a little out of the main shopping district, we found it an easy 10-15 mins walk and much quieter than if we had stayed in central Kona.

Rooms are a little dated in appearance but we loved this place! Every room has a sea view and the rooms are huge!

Don't be dissuaded by what Lonely Planet and other reviewers say about the ocean noise - this is exactly why you stay right beside the water!!

There is a continental breakfast by the pool every morning with fresh fruit, huge bagels, tea and coffee and this set us up for the day nicely. What a great way to start our day eating breakfast by the seawater pool and watching the ocean .....

Our deluxe room was great. It was very large and had a lanai (balcony) and was on the ground floor. Even so, we didn't hear the people above us and the chairs and table outside came in handy to sit in the evening to listen and watch the waves roll in. There was no tv, telephone or air conditioning but the room had a ceiling fan and of course the sea breezes were enough to keep the room cool. There is a fridge in the room and this came in handy for my husband's beers and there is WiFi access from the front reception, by the pool and was also available in our room on the ground floor.

Overall, a great short stay and if we were staying longer in Kona, this hotel would also have been a nice choice. Given the high prices of other accommodations in Kona, this is great value for money.

Parking is limited but they have an interesting and efficient system for moving cars to allow access whenever needed. Advice is to turn up early to secure a park. We didn't use nor need our car during our stay and it was safe in the open air carpark right beside the hotel.

This hotel is a little bit different, slightly retro and nothing like the big resorts found in Kona. Our host Michelle was very helpful and friendly.

Mahalo!

Room Tip: We were in 105 on the ground floor with it's own private lanai. Perfect!

The staff at Kona Tiki were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were simple and clean and reasonably priced. It was a great place next to the water, the only downside was it was about a 15 or 20 min walk to the restaurants. However the rest was great.
