“Had a great time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Just spent 9 days at this resort and had a great time. Everything was exactly like i thought it would be from the other reviews here. condo's are slightly outdated, but clean. Staff is friendly and the pools and extras are great. We bought the air condiditioning which seemed spendy, but we wanted it. The only thing that really bothered us was the parking stalls are tight and we were afraid to damage the rented cars there. They also need to have softer beds and better pillows.
But these are minor things that don't ruin a trip. Would definately stay here again and recommend.

We had a great stay at Outriggers Kanaloa at Kona - a quite tropical setting in a residential development with a guard stand at the entrance. The main pool is crystal clear and the area had that comfortable resort feel with ping pong and tennis court easily accessible. Covered parking, a bit tight if you have a larger car, the property is well maintained, clean and never had a concern with safey. Just out side our unit there was fresh banana, lime and mango trees filled with ripe fruits. Booking arrangements where super easy - Chuck at Aloha Condos did all the work and emailed us everything we needed to know. The condos are close to everything which is another plus.
Condo 3601 was perfect. This is a very large 2 bedroom, 2 bath, one floor unit. There was nothing at all we could want for. The owners made us feel like family having had so many amenities available to us. The stack washer and dryer came in handy allowing us to travel light, there where plenty of linens, pillows, towels (bath and pool) all in great condition. Laundry & dish detergent was available which was unexpected, each shower had a fresh bar of soap and liquid hand soap along with shampoo and conditioners in the showers. The pantry had plenty of stocked food items that made cooking in the unit very easy with out having to buy all the little ingredients. They have all kind of kitchen trinkets and gadgets availble to use - even a coffee grinder to grind the fresh coffee beans that came in a delightful welcome basket that was given to us with a welcome card and filled with fresh local fruit, jellies, spreads and crackers. Seriously it was like renting from family with all the little extra's, they really go that extra mile. All the floors and rug where very clean, I had no problem removing my shoes as I entered, the furnishings are all new, up to date and have that tropical beach flair, the beds are very comfortable and the WIFI is lighting fast! Plenty of outlets to charge all our Iphones and Ipads at night. The Lani was just amazing with a view over an ocean cove that was to die for, comfortably furnished including a wet bar and ceiling fan, you could sit there for hours listening to the gentle slap of the ocean and the breeze thru the palm trees. We had a clear view over to the Sheaton hotel where the night manta ray viewings are. We chose to have air conditioning during our stay and it made us very comfortable especially at night to sleep. I would recommend this option if you stay on August.
With out a doubt would rent this unit again, wouldn't consider looking anywhere else.
Many thanks to our host for a great stay!

This was our second stay in 203, and our sixth stay at Kanaloa at Kona. Simply wonderful. Pros... large condo, quiet location, close to snorkeling, great pools, tennis and table tennis, covered parking, Smart TV, super fast Internet, great beds, great price. Cons... cannot see ocean from room (but you can go down to the ocean pool and see it there.

Kanaola at Kona is a wonderful place! Situated at the end of a dead end street with entrance guards, it is very quiet and perfectly located on perfectly maintained grounds lush with plants and flowers right at the ocean shore. Possibility to snorkel in a little cove just below, shore path, 3 swimming pools, tennis court, ping-pong table, shopping center just 5 minutes away. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Designated covered parking spot for each unit. Our family of 3 spent 11 amazing days enjoying the view from the lanai, snorkeling in the cove, swimming in the pool and discovering the island (Kanaloa is about 15 minutes from Kailua-Kona, 1.5 hour from the Volcano National Parc, 2 hours from Hilo). Unit 3601 is a large 2 bedrooms condo, very well equiped and nicely furnished. The lanai overlooks the cove and the ocean. We went snorkeling in the cove (equipement was in the condo) and saw turtles!

Room Tip: Ground floor units have an easy access. Ocean views are worth it.

5 minutes from good restaurants and shopping.
10 minutes from rugged lava fields or lush rain forest.
20 minutes from the airport.
30 minutes from the best beaches on the island.
60 minutes away from both the northernmost point of the island and southernmost point of the US.
90 Minutes from active Volcanoes.

This is a very good value considering the location and amenities and privacy it provides. It was our first time renting privately and doubt we will ever go back to the hotels.
The unit is comfortable and the owners provided all the basics and more - everything we needed to stay for a week. The only thing we felt was that with a minor make over of the bathrooms and the cupboards this space would be perfect.
We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the unit as well.
We would also like to mention the staff and admin of the resort were extremely friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze if you follow Chuck's directions.
Would we rent again from Aloha - absolutely!

Room Tip: The resort is amazing. We were very happy that we picked a unit with an ocean view.

Our family of 6 stayed in unit 3204. We dealt directly with Outrigger. The unit was just as advertised. We had an excellent view of the ocean. The condo was clean and well stocked. The grounds at Kanaloa are beautiful. You're about 5 miles from the village and almost walking distance to a real grocery store.

We opted for the a.c. at $30.00 per day. It was needed. It bugged me that the thermostat was on a timer and set at 74 degrees.(For 30/day I should get icicles hanging from my nose anytime I want.) The optional cleaning charges are prohibitively high. You don't really need them. Our one encounter with the "activities director" was a little off-putting. She seemed a bit angry that I had scheduled many activities without her input.

Kanaloa is a good option if you want to be near, but not in, the hustle of Kona town. This was my second visit and I'll probably be back again.

The Outrigger Kanaloa is in a really great location. It is just off the end of Ali'i drive- which is the main street of Kona. It is at the end of a dead end street so you don't have to deal with much traffic. We had a fairway view which was spectacular. Because we are rarely in our room, we didn't feel like spending the extra for an ocean view since you can't really see it at night. Our room overlooked an expanse of golf course that was gorgeously landscaped and had breathtaking views of the nearby volcano. We had a lanai with a table to hold 6 and ate dinner most nights out there. there was even a ceiling fan on the covered lanai! There was always a nice breeze. We had a second lanai off the master bedroom. The 2 bedrooms were a great size as were the baths- the master one had a huge walk in shower which was great for cleaning off dive gear! The condo was extremely clean. Ceiling fans were in the living room, and 2 bedrooms as well as the lanai. You can opt for air conditioning at an additional fee per night. This was a tough one. Kona in July/August was a lot more humid than I had anticipated. When we came into the condo in the early evening- it was often stuffy- especially when cooking dinner. It did cool down nicely for bedtime. They had 2 extra standing fans in the bedrooms to assist with air movement, but generally you were comfortable with just the ceiling fan by bedtime. If you were going to spend a great deal of time in the condo or really wanted that refreshing cool when you are in it or come into to it after a day on the beach than getting the a/c would be well worth it. It really comes down to personal preference as to how much one values a/c and the cost of it. The primary reason I did not give this 5 stars was the dryer and parking. t The dryer in our complex put out very little heat and had to be run about 3-5 times for one load of clothes to be adequately dried which was a pain when you were doing beach towels late and needed them for the next morning early. In addition, you are assigned a parking spot which is covered and in groups of 2- however, the spaces are extremely narrow and when 2 vans are in the group- someone is not going to be able to get out without being dropped off before pulling into the spot. There isn't enough room for the doors to open on both sides. Be sure and turn your rearview mirrors in to avoid unnecessary scratches on that rental car! Otherwise- this is a great value - plenty of space, well maintained, easy access to Routes 11, 19, 180, shopping center with restaurants and food store at the corner, gas station at the corner in the Keahou shopping center. Within walking distance to FairWind snorkel and other adventures that leave from Keahou Bay. Also a spot to possibly see mantas at night. We didn't use any of the amenities- they do have pools and a recreation planner.

What a great description of the property, thank you. Although the parking stalls are standard size, it seems smaller due to the owner closets on both ends. For larger vehicles, there are open stalls throughout the property that makes it easier to get in or out of the vehicle. Once again, thank you for such wonderful descriptions and comments.
