“The Best in Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

Jackie Rey's is always at the top of my list for Big Island Dining. We came as a party of 4 to check out the new summer menu. Wow, what wonderful surprises. We sampled our way through the new appetizers--roasted beet and arugula salad, wasabi calamari, kampachi sashimi. The kampachi was melt-in-your-mouth exquisite. The salad was a great foil to the crispy and spicy calamari. Three of us ordered the 12 oz PORK CHOP--OMG--a meat-eater's delight...golden brown, yet juicy and tender The chop was served over a marsala sauce and accompanied by Yukon golds, a great touch. Equally outstanding on the new menu was the steamed kampachi. served on ti leaves with coconut rice and snap peas. The fish was cooked to perfection, tender and flakey and was drizzled with searing sesame oil among other flavors at point of service. What an explosion of flavors. A wonderfully memorable dining experience and, of course, the service was outstanding as usual. Our server, Amy, always had a pleasant smile and was very attentive to us. Kudos to the entire staff, kitchen and dining room. You all ROCK! Mahalo nui loa for such a great experience.

“Very good, consistent quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

Jackie Ray's is a place with good, fresh clean food and a a good value. Fish is fresh and cooked perfect (except fish & chips, not so great). I love the scallops dish and lilikoi martinis. It is a reliable, all around good place to eat and frequented by locals. It is a bit hot during summer months as it is all open air.

“Bustling Atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

As others have stated, this place has literally been around for years. It's located out of the downtown area at an intersection where you need to be on your game to enter/exit the parking lot. There is plenty of parking.

If you're looking for a noisy dinner destination, this is your place as it is VERY kid friendly (with Keiki menu). This is a good family destination, if you're looking for a romantic spot or quiet dinner, this may not be your best acoustic choice.

Known for their creative sauces and fresh fish, the fish is usually constant, however the sauces vary in consistency and flavor, as commented on by others we've dined with over the years.

The ALOHA (Happy) Hour offerings and menu (from 3-5pm) are very nice and priced right. The drinks are well-made, service is attentive, and the pupu (appetizer) menu is nicely balanced.

This establishment has many 'loyal' customers who offer that Jackie's is one of the 'best' restaurants in the area. True, it's a destination, however over time, other dining spots have opened that have taken this restaurant from 'great' to 'average' in the big picture.

Still, overall, it's a tradition to dine at Jackie's, however some of us have migrated from a dinner experience to their fantastic ALOHA hour, where this restaurant shines.

“Love this place :: Highly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

Celebrating birthdays, a promotion and life! The fried calamari pupu with three dipping sauces was excellent, enough for the four of us to share. I had the pasta with fresh Ono fish, very good, with fresh tomatoes and basil; a huge portion, I had to take some home. My niece had the salad with grilled shrimp she enjoyed it very much. My nephew had the fresh Ono fish and chips and he mentioned the fish was very fresh and flaky he really enjoyed it. My husband had the Wednesday special, tempura shrimp and Teriyaki beef. His only complaint was the shrimp were actually breaded not traditional tempura, though the shrimp were very good, he was disappointed that it was not tempura. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Very busy place on the Wednesday afternoon.

“Best fowl dish ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

So, you walk in and think why does everyone think this is great? Then the hostess smiles and seats you. You order the best Mai Tai ever or maybe a Lilikoi Margarita. M you begin to understand. Menu has a game hen; you are hungry but decide to try it. OMG - that game hen is bigger than a small turkey and it tastes divine! Best fowl dish ever in a restaurant. We eat here often as it is about two miles from home. I almost never get anything else, and usually take half home for lunch the next day
