Jackie Rey's is always at the top of my list for Big Island Dining. We came as a party of 4 to check out the new summer menu. Wow, what wonderful surprises. We sampled our way through the new appetizers--roasted beet and arugula salad, wasabi calamari, kampachi sashimi. The kampachi was melt-in-your-mouth exquisite. The salad was a great foil to the crispy and spicy calamari. Three of us ordered the 12 oz PORK CHOP--OMG--a meat-eater's delight...golden brown, yet juicy and tender The chop was served over a marsala sauce and accompanied by Yukon golds, a great touch. Equally outstanding on the new menu was the steamed kampachi. served on ti leaves with coconut rice and snap peas. The fish was cooked to perfection, tender and flakey and was drizzled with searing sesame oil among other flavors at point of service. What an explosion of flavors. A wonderfully memorable dining experience and, of course, the service was outstanding as usual. Our server, Amy, always had a pleasant smile and was very attentive to us. Kudos to the entire staff, kitchen and dining room. You all ROCK! Mahalo nui loa for such a great experience.
