We stayed for a week self catered in the apartment called Marko. It had amazing 180 degree views across Lopud bay, towards the fortress and pine valley. We feel we were particularly lucky with this apartment as it enjoyed the most comprehensive views of the bay and we had the sun on the balcony from 8am - 8pm.
The studio apartment was spacious but fairly basic in terms of kitchen facilities (essentially a kitchenette cupboard!). However the bathroom was clean and more than functional. On our first day we received a welcome basket, which contained essentials such as coffee, sugar (and wine) but also a selection home grown fruit and veg from the hotel's vegetable garden.
The pool, which is shared by guests staying at the appartments and the hotel is small, but clean and very pleaent temperature after a bit of sun. The surrounding terrace is spacious and equipped with a about 10 good quality sun loungers. For the majority of our stay we were the only people in/around the pool area. However, they day before we left, a large Norwegian family, including 4 very boisterous children arrived, which rather spoiled the relaxing vibe!
The hotel staff, who are based at the Hotel Villa Vilina around 50 yards away, were warm and friendly and Judge the lazy hotel Labrador was often on hand to give us a warm welcome back after a day exploring the island.
As we self catered for the week we relied heavily on the selection of restaurants and cafes in the bay for our evening meal. All of a very high standard and very friendly. We event got to sample some complimentary local grappa courtesy of Restaurant (Konoba) Barbara, which we can highly recommend off the Road to Suni ( the sandy beach). If we were to book again we would definitely choose the B&B option at Hotel Lopudski Dvori as the local "mini market" redefined the word mini! It had all the essentials including fresh bread and cheese however opening hours are very much at the owner's convenience which lead to a few hungry mornings.
Lopud as a holiday destination could not have been more relaxing and provided a great escape from the pace of London life. Those looking for an action packed holiday would be sorely disappointed but for idyllic location for a relaxing break we really couldn't have done any better. The locals are very friendly and speak excellence English which only adds to the Island's charm and stress free pace of life.
Top five things to do include:
- A visit to Suni beach (a lovely sandy beach in a bay with a couple of eating places)
- A walk around the Belvedere peninsular (which provides views towards the town and our to sea)
- A swim in the crystal clear sea from one of the more secluded spots (take from jelly shoes to get in though!)
- Day trip to Dubrovnik (Ferries fairly regular and it only takes 50 mins)
- A beer or a cold glass of wine from one of the seafront cafes (where minutes easily turn into hours)
