We took the Molokai mule ride down the 2000 foot pali to the town of Kaluapapa -- historic site of a leper colony. You can only visit this site by permit and you are met at the base of the cliff by a guide. The ride down the side of the cliff can be a bit hair raising while spectacularly beautiful. The mules are well trained. Knowing about Kaluapapa's history I found the tour and visit to this historic place of pain, suffering and triumph to be quite emotional. It is all very well done and respectful.
