“Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2004

I loved this place. We stayed in the guest house and it was spacious, decorated beautifully and had a great kitchen. The only drawback was the small bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the staff was very nice and accomodating. The food at the restaurant was incredibly fresh. The pool was also refreshing. A great find in the desert!

My girlfriend and I travelled to Tewntynine from LA for a base to explore the Joshua Tree National Park.
Afetr looking at a couple of standard motels which were not up to much we decided to have a look at the Tewntynine Palms Inn. It is set back off the main strip in a lovley little setting. We were lucky enough to get one of the log cabins on the Oasis Of Mara which had a decking Area and a hammock which was ideal for lying on at sunset with a cool bottle of beer. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was very good. This is one of those rare places that can make your whole trip very special indeed. There is a nice little pool to cool down from the desert heat and the whole place is very quiet.
If you decide to go to the Joshua Tree I would strongly advise you stay at The Inn. We have booked to go back to California in Summer 2005 and I hope to visit this great place again

California's central coastline is a tourist magnet and rightly so - but to make your trip to the Golden State feel complete venturing into California's expansive deserts is a must. The Twentynine Palms Inn makes for a tranquil and comfortable place to stay whilst exploring the nearby Joshua Tree National Park which is interesting enough to make for a family day trip yet big enough to provide many days of hiking with the right equipment and at the right time of year. The Inn has a long tradition of being family run and consists of both adobe bungalows and assorted wooden chalets, some of which are situated by the attractive oasis. Rates vary significantly depending upon the type of accommodation and the time of year and it is often advisable to book ahead. The restaurant is probably one of the best places to eat in the area and the site is set well away from the strip of comparatively dull motels along the highway. Apart from catering for visitors on quieter evenings a few locals are usually to be found at the bar - who are usually happy to recommend routes through the National Park and reminisce about past earthquakes (the Inn stradles a faultline). Tours of the oasis are offered on Saturday and Sunday mornings to guests. The packed lunch service is an added bonus!

We went to eat at the 29 Palms Inn while staying at the nearby Circle C Lodge. The hotel accommodation is in small adobe cottages, all painted in different colours which beautifully reflect the hues of dusk descending on the outlines of the National Park and the Mojave Desert. The restaurant adjoins the Inn's pool area which has a slightly run down look. This is apparently a long established family run place. Service in the restaurant was prompt, efficient and friendly. It seems the bar is used by a few local people and the whole place has an old fashioned feel - it was so good to escape the shiny plastic of fast food chains! We had an excellent meal with fresh ingredients (vegetables produced in the garden) good meat, fish and pasta dishes and really good salads (try the oasis dressing, it's superb). Our evening at the 29 Palms Inn was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip. Pity it's 8000 miles from home or we'd be back.
