“Marine Base Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2010

This hotel was near to the Marine Base in 29 Palms. The hotel was clean, quiet and the staff very helpful and cheerful. Great continental breakfast and coffee! This hotel is also close to some grocery stores and other shops. I would stay here again on a return trip.

Reception staff: Very friendly and very helpful, offering useful tips and advice.
We were shown to a suite which was clean, smelled fresh and was very comfortable.
Breakfast pretty standard for this type of establishment but certainly enough of it and again staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel is an average Holiday Inn Express, nothing special. There are not many options in this area, and we could not get into a B&B we wanted for the weekend. The breakfast was pre-made sausage, eggs, muffins, cereal, yogurt and fruit. We could hear the neighbors in the next room and the doors opening and closing in the hall all hours. The air conditioner was noisy. The bed was firm and comfortable with an assortment of pillows. Didn't use the pool, but it looked nice. The jacuzzi was closed for repairs. The desk staff was helpful, but not all that familiar with the area.

The rooms are average. The price was high. They would not let us use our points earned for a free night's stay. They ran out of much of the food on the breakfast bar every day, the staff stood around & gossiped more than they took care of the guests. The worst part is that when we checked out they arbitrarily added charges to our bill. We are still disputing them with the manager, and he won't even call us back!

The inn is reasonably close to the park entrance in 29 palms. The hotel is about what you expect from any chain hotel -- clean room, average furnishings, helpful front desk, big parking lot.

The hot breakfast is nice, but it's comparable to any $5 breakfast from a fast food restaurant.

My issue with the hotel was the price. We had a reservation at the cheapest rate we would get (~$135) as we were staying on a saturday night in February. This is sort of the high season, so I expected the place to be busy. It was deserted. Comparable hotels in the area had rates as low as $50 a night. Definitely look into staying here, but if you're budget conscious you might get a better deal just finding lodging that night.

We stopped in this hotel between the Mojave and Joshua Tree parks. We were greeted with a broad smile, as if coming home. The desk lady offered a choice of rooms, the one we took was of good size, tastefully decorated, with coffee machine, refrigerator and microwave oven. No safe. She gave us good advice about restaurants, and offered a cookie and an apple. The breakfast included an omelette, sausage patties, warm cinnamon rolls, plus the usual, everything of good quality. A young lady cleaned the tables, replenished the buffet and made everybody feel welcome. Truly our best experience so far on this trip. On checkout we were given an apple again.

I chose this hotel based on reviews here at Tripadvisor. We stayed in a "suite": It was a huge room with two clearly defined areas, which came in handy with my 8 year old woke up at 4am sick to her stomach. We pretty much missed out on Joshua Tree as I tended to my sickie and tried to keep my 3 year old entertained. Needless to say, we became well acquainted with the room. The room was clean and spacious and well appointed. So big that one kid could watch TV by the beds while the other watched a movie on my laptop sitting on the couch. The staff at this hotel were amazing! Everyone from the front desk to housekeeping to the breakfast attendant was amazingly helpful and friendly. The breakfast attendant suggested I take some muffins for later in case my daughter was feeling better. She was so sweet! I've never written a review, but this was such a positive experience that I feel the need to spread the word. Having a grocery store next door was also very convenient. I look forward to returning the hotel, only healthy next time!
