Sorry to say, but this was one of the most disappointing hotels I have ever experienced (and I have travelled a lot). This is a hotel that in our opinion (my Austrian girlfriend and myself) caters to its own costs rather than any real value to the customer, and its 4-star rating is not worthy. Sure, it caters to a lot of seminars, and I suppose for that it might be ok, but for a romantic getaway, forget it! The atmosphere within the buildings is closer to a hospital than a hotel, with corridors that are extremely confusing to negotiate and extremely monotonously dull to get lost in. Inside the rooms, the furniture looks like it comes from 1980's IKEA: functional pinewood cupboards, desks and chairs and sterile lighting better suited to a convalescent home. The TV was pretty small and had only the very basic cable selections (no in-house films), there was one sun-bleached painting in the room that was too small for the wall it was hanging on, and the curtains had stains all over. The bathroom was ok, but my partner spent 20 mins drying her hair because the hairdryer only had one speed, slow! And there was no fan in the bathroom, so we had to open the door and let in all the cold air in order to get the mirrors de-fogged. The internet wifi was extremely slow in the room, and on the one computer they have downstairs in the lobby, the keyboard is old and noisy and the connection so slow that I could have taken a nap for several minutes.
We specifically asked for a quiet room with a nice view. What we got was a balcony view over to the concrete backyard of the neighbour's carpentry garage, complete with banging and loading noises from early in the morning. Our double bed was actually two single beds pushed together, and they were so low that I banged my head hard when I turned over, into the built-in bedside shelves which were at a dangerous eye-level when lying down, with sharp corner-edges.
The breakfast was ok, but not by any means anything to write home about. There was awful dentist waiting-room pan flute music whilst we ate, and the furniture was worn.
The hotel offers a spa relaxation area, which sounds great but in reality is nothing special. This hotel caters for 100 guests, but the spa area is so small that there would be barely enough room if many people decided to turn up at once.
We paid 140 euros for this experience, when it was worth maybe half of that. It is modelled as a semi-luxurious Landhaus (country) style hotel within an old castle, but in effect it is an un-stylish, sterile place that could do so much better with a bit of effort. Helpful staff close to centre of town, but definitely not for anybody looking for a romantic memorable getaway experience. We won't come again!
