“Great Family Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Great big rooms, friendly staff and good food and wine at Hotel Albona Nova.
The location is 2 minutes from the lift. After skiing the Spa /pool area at the hotel is enjoyable. We can only recommend this hotel to ohter families.

Ski in Ski out, fantastic food, fantastic service and modern great rooms. The location of the hotel is next to the main ski lift - this is very important and convenient for us. The hotel also had a very good spa area but not a gym which I believe they should consider to invest in!

This hotel is a great place to go for skiing in the Arlberg area. Positioned 50m from the slopes, it has a very clean and effective ski room, with lockers controlled by the ski pass (genial). The personnel is very helpful and extremely kind. Food is very good, not really Austrian traditional but more kind of nouvelle cousine: small portions, but this helps to stay fit ;-)
At 100m from the hotel there is the skibus stop, in 10 min you can get in the St.Anton areas.
The ski area is just fantastic, the mountains are maybe less beautiful than the Dolomites (e.g. Cortina, or Alta Badia), but the off-piste possibilities are far better.
We will definitely come back here again.

Room Tip: Close to pistes, great place to go for skiing in Arlberg

Love this hotel. I had 2 small children with me and the room was perfect. 2 minute walk to the lifts, 5 minute walk to ski school. Lift will get you access to both Zurs and Lech without taking a bus. I thought the staff , food, location were all excellent. I've stayed in a few other hotels in Lech and Zurs and Albona Nova is by far the best value.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

Overall we had a great holiday at the Albona Nova, helped by super ski weather, snow and the family making good friends. The hotel has some great attributes, but also clear weaknesses.

The location of the hotel, some 20 m from the lifts and piste is excellent. The dinners are excellent, with innovative gourmet food and a super wine list. The pool is small but a great asset after skiing and the kids playroom is well stocked with toys for a range of ages. The common parts of the hotel are attractive and have not been starved of investment - there is a very fancy modern ski room, but hands free ski pass access to the room and ski lockers.

On the downside, our room seemed to be one of the few in the hotel that was not recently refurbished. It was dowdy, cramped and unattractive. Kids suppers are devoid of fruit or veg. Yet more alarmingly, the service throughout the hotel was decidedly unfriendly. A couple of staff were engaging, but the front desk, bar staff (when they could be found) and much of the waiting staff were either unfriendly or absent. In the restaurant the staff imposed apartheid between English and German speaking guests wih English guests on the less attractive tables.

The hotel owner is evidently not short of capital, with plenty of money lavished for example on an air tight smoking facility which I certainly never saw anyone in. Does she smoke? More money needs to be spent on staff and their training. There was no obvious head waiter or waitress, there was no obvious bar tender, which is a shame as the bar facility is very actually nice and could have a great atmosphere, given a friendly bar tender and some decent music. The front desk needs a charm injection.

Small family owned alpine hotels should overflow with Gemutlichkiet - charm and warmth. This is sadly lacking at the Albona Nova. Most frustrating, because there are some very positive aspects to the hotel - make sure you get a refurbished room too.

The Albona-Nova in Zurs is a 4 star superior hotel that has earned its rating. It is located a short walk from the Zursersee Bahn, a 4 person high speed lift that brings you right into the heart of Zurs's legendary powder skiing. The food is outstanding, with an exceptionally talented young chef with a penchant for duck. The service is likewise excellent, with friendly and efficient servers who take the time to learn your preferences. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with all the amenities and features you'd hope for in a luxury ski vacation. The spa area is being rebuilt and expanded this summer, but was still adequate and well-appointed. I highly recommend staying at the Albona Nova.

Although we stayed only for two nights, the hotel absolutely lived up to a 4+ stars standard. The rooms are spacious, very clean and fit the overall "feel" of the place. The food is absolutely spectacular! Our kids loved the kids room and the admittedly small indoor pool. The skiing is absolutely amazing. We'll be back ...
