“A fantastic hotel and resort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

I stayed at the Lohmann with a group of couples and friends in the first week of March 2014. I totally endorse all the positive comments regarding staff friendliness, staff efficiency, room size and cleanliness, food quality etc. I didn’t really find any bad points. It is a modern hotel with a slightly quirky and initially confusing layout. Once you get your bearings you realise everything is laid out in a logical manner.

Staff at the in house hire shop were efficient and friendly. The hotel has a direct entrance into the shop which is very near to the ski keller.

The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and I can understand its appeal to families and groups of friends. I would also happily stay here as just a couple.

As previously mentioned the free wine and beer at dinner is fantastic value and the waiting staff keep it flowing right up to the end of dinner service. It saved our group a small fortune! I have had experience of another hotel in this resort were wine was a minimum of 30 euro a bottle.

One tip which I haven’t seen mentioned on here is the following short cut to the slopes. This is suitable for anyone who can at least snowplough and use a beginners button tow. With your back to the hotel turn left and walk 100m along the main road, turn right and cross the road taking you into a lane which runs up the side of the Hotel Hochfirst. Walk along the lane for about 30m you will see the Wiesenlift button tow. Take this short tow up and it is an easy and short ski down to the bottom of the Festkoglbahn gondola which will take you to the main blue slopes above Obergurgl. You can return at the end of the day to this spot using red 3 or blue 5 and then it’s a short walk back to the hotel.

The skiing in the area is fantastic and you will never encounter queues for the lifts. A fantastic hotel and resort.

This was our first time in Obergurgl. The hotel was only a short walk from the slopes but was also close to bus stop for getting the ski bus and also the bus to Soelden. It was also a great location for shops.
The service in the hotel was very friendly - and the majority of the staff spoke excellent English.
My wife and I had one of the newer rooms which are a very good size. The kids had a smaller room in the older part of the hotel which was well equipped.
The breakfast and dinner choices were very good for the whole family.
For skiers the other really good thing is that there is a ski shop attached to the hotel. The service and advice there was also excellent.
Although we did not use it there was a kids club and it was clear that all the kids were having great fun.
We would definitely recommend staying at the Lohmann.

This hotel will grow on you. The first impression might not be so impressive as it has not the Austrian charm as many other hotels in the area BUT it makes up for it by being super organised, very helpful, friendly, super clean and great for the kids. We have just come back from 1 week ski holiday at Obergurgl and stayed at the Lohmann Hotel. We had our 7 year old son with us who was booked into the local Ski School (there is only one in Obergurgl) which is less than 5 minutes away. The friendly lady at reception asked us if we want our son to be collected at lunchtime by David and taken back for his afternoon. We were not even aware of this service when we booked and even better - its all inclusive in the price. David runs the kids club and is a great reliable guy who takes the kids out for snowball fights, sledging and all sorts of activities from 4-8pm. The rooms at the Lohmann are generous and you have an extra room opposite your room for storage (super handy for your big bags and everything else you don't want to fall over during your stay). We stayed on the ground floor and I was surprised how good silent the rooms were. You hear slight noises from the room above you but nothing from the rooms next to you. Super isolation! The breakfast and dinner at the Lohmann are great. Fresh food and plenty of it. There is lots of variety and best of all soft drinks as well as beer and wine are free with dinner which saves you quite a bit of money. The waiters/waitresses are super friendly. There is not much you can fault at the Lohmann apart from the decor. It has a great wellness area on the bottom floor which we used every day. So dont be put off when you arrive and see square building and funny layout of the hotel - by the end of your stay you will love it.. I would go back to the Lohman - we had an amazing week!

Room Tip: We were on floor -4, same floor as the kids club which was handy. The rooms are very quiet so no pro...

We had a great time at this hotel. The staff were very friendly. We had a junior suite on the bottom floor which I would recommend as the rooms are large and bright. Food was great and fresh cannot complain. It's a simply decorated, clean and friendly hotel - it's not 5 star, but it was relaxed and the kids were very much welcomed. They loved the fab children's club run by David who was amazing. For us this is more important than beautiful decor! We would be happy to go again.

Our son chose this hotel because it had a reputation for being children friendly. We accompanied them along with our grandchildren ages 1 and 3. The reputation was well deserved. Aside from the indoor play area for the kids one level below the restaurant, there was a dedicated play room on a lower level, with a program director that had activities for the kids each day around 4PM. One day, they did sled riding on a hill behind the hotel, another day building snowmen, and on yet another day, a snowball fight. Twice, the program director did face painting with the kids that they wore to supper. He also conducted crafts activities each day. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially in the restaurant, where they worked well with the children. The buffet included items geared towards the kids that they enjoyed each evening. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of foods that were of decent quality, along with the endless quantity of wines served with dinner. The one downside was that we had a room located on one of the "in-between" floors that had no direct elevator access. Lugging bags up and down the flight of stairs to get to the room was not something we expected to have to do. Having the ski rental facility right there in the hotel was very convenient and the turn-around service was very quick. Overall, we had a very good experience at the Hotel Lohmann and would come back again with the Grandkids. The hotel has no pool - they should consider adding one for the kids. You would have to drive all the way back into Soelden to access a pool, not a drive you would want to make in poor weather conditions.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the side of the hotel that has same floor access to the elevator. These suite...

We were a party of two couples staying here towards then end of March. Two respectable brits and a couple of coffee stealing South Africans!!! The hotel is in a great location between two main gondolas and has a good/secure area for boards and boots (also skis if that’s the way you swing :-)

Our room was very spacious and clean (and kept clean to a high standard all week). The food is buffet style, but don’t let that put you off as there was always a good selection and plentiful. The Chef was also cooking something fresh during each meal time. Wine, beer and soft drinks are free during meals.

The real jewel in the crown of this hotel are the staff. Every one of them we met was polite, professional and always had a smile on their face. Special mention to Jonas and Atilla in the bar who kept us well stocked with drinks and had great banter. Zane and Balazs (apologies if I’ve misspelt this) in the restaurant who worked so hard to make sure we had everything we needed (usually wine :-)

We really can’t speak highly enough of the staff. We’ve always found Austrian hospitality to be fantastic, but now we can add Hungarian and an unusual New Zealand/German combo to that too 

Room Tip: As is the norm the wellness area is a naked zone.....obviously being British I was far too prudish t...

I traveled with a large group of friends. The Hotel reception area is very cramped so first impressions were not great, the Receptionist was efficient and pleasant. The layout of the Hotel is very odd, rooms are located below reception and lifts only serve a small number of rooms, we struggled to find our rooms and had to carry cases up and down steps ( would have requested a Porter to help if we had known)
Food was buffet style and generally good quality with a good choice, we were allocated our own table for the week and restaurant staff were helpful and friendly. Free drinks at dinner were good apart from the white wine which none of the group enjoyed.
The bar is very small and lacks atmosphere and the Barman was miserable ! The C U bar next door was better and smoking is permitted there. Complimentary coffee and cakes at 4pm -5pm kept us going until dinner.
Rooms are a good size and beds are extremely comfortable.
Some parents did not supervise their kids in the play area so it was sometimes a bit noisy around there.
I did not use the sauna or jacuzzi so can't comment on that.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.
