“Now the icing on the cake !! last wing renovated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

We have returned to this hotel time after time in little old Ellmau over the last 15yrs - we always have a Comfort room with a view of the Hartkeiser. These rooms (in this wing) have now been renovated inline with the rest of the hotel. Absolutely stunning just the icing on a top class hotel. The rooms have copious amounts of storage and hanging facilities, the beds are so comfy and the bathroom is really good with a great shower and loads of hot water and toiletries which were topped up every day - the room maid was so kind and nice. Now for the restaurant and food-again the restaurant (breakfast room) has had a face lift as looks really nice. The FOOD!!! well that just gets better-top class cuisine, i know its not everyones cup of tea to eat fancy food but the flavours were just wonderful (the portion sizes were not megga so you could enjoy the cuisine without feeling too stuffed) but hey you dont have to have every course you can choose to miss anything out like the soup. Breakfast were great as ever, crispy bacon scrambled eggs, fruits, yogurts, cold meats n cheeses etc etc too much to say. The bar area is now non-smoking which is a plus and a lovely place to relax and after skiing there was always a small buffet of 1 hot dish, salad dishes and cakes if you wanted it (from 1-4.30pm) so if you wish you could ski back to hotel for lunch. The pool is small but nice, the sauna area (naked as usual in Austria so we Brits tend to not use it like Germans and Dutch) I also need to mention since the hotel does not use a travel agent for UK guests, you make your independent way there, WATCH OUT for school holidays!!!!!! we went 1/3 to 8/3 big mistake!! do not go when it is Shrove Tuesday week as it German and Dutch school hols - we were only British in hotel and experienced something we have never experienced before at this hotel ever before! rudeness and pushing and jostling not only in long queues on the slopes but the same around the buffet table at dinner time - the children were rude as well and we felt very overwhelmed by the other guests who quite frankly ************************** Do not let this put you off though - just don't go this week as its as busy as Christmas week and we did not know. All in all this hotel is a wonderful place, ski out and almost back to the door. Ellmau a little low for snow but you cannot guarantee the weather. We will definitely go back again for sure, attention to detail is second to none and the Windisch family are always in the hotel making sure everything is ok, they certainly know how to do it and never take their finger off the pulse. Thank you for looking after us, wonderful food Joseph, and we luv the new rooms.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good now renovated - we have had deluxe and Comfort and both are good - deluxe has...

After searching for a hotel that could accommodate my company's annual management retreat, Hotel Der Baer was clearly the favorite. From the moment I contacted the hotel, until the final day of the retreat, the experience was perfect. The staff was extremely accommodating, the food was unbelievably delicious and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The conference room was ideal for our daily meetings and had perfect views of the beautiful surroundings. Our team traveled from all over the world and Nichole and other members of the staff completely made everyone feel at home. We will definitely be back!

We stayed here for the Kitzbuhel world cup downhill weekend and the stay was as perfectas we can imagine. Extremely friendly and helpful from owners to staff. The food was unbelievable really and the spa and environment were exactly what we were looking for.

I travel a lot for my work, and therefore come in quite nice hotels around the world, and I have to say that Der Baer I would consider a small hotel. Which is very good for the atmospher in the lounge and the dining area. And the attention the people have for you.
We loved our stay in the hotel, and the location of the hotel is ideal. walking out of the hotel straight onto the piste.
The food in the evenings is very nice, and of very high quality. After a full day of skiing it more then satisfies you.
If I have one remark is that the spa area is somewhat small, especially when the hotel is fully booked.

After several visits to Hotel Baer I returned this year for the first time in winter, I wasn't disappointed. I was holidaying with friends and we had adjoining suites in the new wing, we had a private sauna between us, very spacious and comfortable suites with wifi and beautiful views. The restaurant was as exceptional as ever. It was so nice to see all the familiar faces of the Baer team. The reception staff were very helpful in advising me where to go for ski hire, all I had to do was get fitted and pay, the ski gear was delivered to the hotel ski room and collected when I had finished with it. I was advised on the best value lift pass and it was issued by the hotel. (No messing at the lift station) Skiing was right from the hotel door. At the end of the ski day the reception staff ran my ski pass through the computer and gave me a print out of my ski activity that day. I loved it. Congratulations to the Hotel owners on maintaining high standards year on year. I hope to return.

Room Tip: Spa suites were 107 & 106

This was our 1st visit to this hotel. Although the friends we went with had been before, they enjoyed it even more this time. The new refurbishment is of a high standard, we had a junior suite which was very spacious. The food was exceptional with plenty of choice. With very friendly and helpful staff it made this a very nice and relaxing holiday. The Wilder Kaiser area has much to offer. Already booked for our next visit.

This was our 6th visit to this hotel. It may be hard to believe but it just gets better every visit. The new refurbishment is the icing on the cake. The food has always been exceptional and a big thank you to Josef and his team. The family are hands on with a great support from the very friendly staff. All in all a truly lovely place to visit. We have tried many hotels and will continue to do so but cannot imagine anything better than staying at the friendly Der Baer. The area itself is beautiful and has so much to offer for all ages. Already planning our next visit.
