We stayed at this hotel from the 1st until the 8th of March 2008 while skiing.

It's a nice hotel and I'd certainly go back.

Good things about the hotel were:

Staff were friendly and helpful.
Nice pool and sauna.
Buffet for breakfast and dinner meant you could eat loads if you wanted.
About 50 metres away from the TrassXpress ski lift which takes you directly to the slopes.
About 50 metres away from the bus stop if you want to go to the glacier at Kaprun (which we did 4 out of 6 days as the snow was great there). You have to change buses once but it's just a matter of hopping off one bus and onto another at the bus station.

Less good things about the hotel were:

When we stayed there were loads of under 5's - if you don't like children then perhaps not the best choice.
Our room was fine (115) but others seemed to be stuck in the 70's as others have said here.
Quite a walk from the town - there is a bus every half hour though.
Dinner was a bit hit and miss - sometimes nice but sometimes dissappointing. Nice salad bar but apart from that they didn't really cater for vegetarians.

holiday brochure pictures and description looked great, booked our holiday on the strength of this. Sadly, we were allocated room 214 ,dont remember getting into the tardis but when we got out of it we were in 1973. The room was cold,dark and overlooking the bins at the back, sink and bath were cracked as well as the balcony, for which we had paid a supplement. Apparently hotel was full so were unable to change rooms. Some staff were ok but others rude and unwilling to help.Food was ok but buffet every night. Only good point was easy access to cable car and gondolas. Would not recommend on the experience that we had.

Stayed here 12/01/08 until 19/01/08 on a skiing holiday. The location is fabulous ski in ski out and particularly for families with small children. The hotel itself is antiquated, rooms very small and in bad need of an interior decor job, you can upgrade where the rooms are more to the standard you would have expected to get anyway for a four star hotel. The standard of food was below average and the leisure facilities would have been good 20 odd years ago. Location not suitable for those wishing to partake in apres ski in the town or wishing to socialise at night as the town is a €10 taxi away and believe me you need to take a taxi as you are located 2km above the town and that is a steep 2km rise.

We have nothing but praise for the welcome, facilites and overall service we received at the Hotal Schwebebahn !

The owners were charming and welcoming and their staff were all courteous, available and attentive. Everybody spoke perfect English.

The food was mostly excellent. Very Austrian but that is what we like when visiting the country.
We were all inclusive but the drinks never stopped coming !!

Hotel was clean and well maintained, rooms were fine, pool was good and there is a large and safe grassed area ( albeit hilly) for children to play or adults to sunbathe. An excellent patio area with views to the Schmittenhohe was always popular.

90% of the guests staying the same 10 days as us were families, English, Dutch, German, Austrian, Belgian, Croatian, Polish, Hungarian and others... Everybody mixed with everybody else and it added to the overall excellent holiday experience.

Location was not a problem for us. As we did not feel like walking up or down the hill for a mile or so in the glorious Austrian sunshine, the bus trip to town was regular and reliable - even for early morning excursion departures.
Taxis are about 10 Euros one way, so not extortionate by any means.

This hotel is to be recommended - We will certainly return.
