“Excellent hotel, would go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2008

We spent a week here over New Year. We found the hotel staff very friendly and efficient. We were on a half board basis and found the evening buffet to be of a high qaulity with a wide selection. We stayed in a junior suite in the new building (over the road from the main hotel but linked by an underground tunnel) and found the room spacious and clean. Zell am See itself is a very pretty resort with plenty of restaurants and bars. We spent New Year's Eve in the main square, which had a good atmosphere and plenty of fireworks. We enjoyed the skiing too - our party were mainly intermediates and we found a wide variety of suitable runs and lift queues were reasonable given the popularity of New Year week. Overall, we would return to this hotel again.

Hotel was very clean, we had modern 4th floor room (with sofa bed for 5 year old daughter) with wide balcony and new bathroom. (Apparently top floor was rebuilt couple of years ago and roof raised to sweep away old attic rooms), Staff were helpful and willing to organise trips. Food good (large spread of starters excellently presented) weekly kitchen party unexpected fun (which we had taken camera) also house beer and wine were free (but not in winter) and Could also get free tea / coffee / juice (self service during day)
Location is a bit of a walk as 10 mins uphill from town centre (can get bus, but location of bus-stops means you need to walk part way). Our holiday reps from Crystal were also friendly and reliable. However outdoor pool was rather cold, Also check photos on brochure carefully (there is a road between pool and new building) which leads to Schmittenhoe cable cars. Would go there again

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large, clean and comfortable with a balcony with a view to the lake. We were on an all-inclusive package, which couldn't be faulted. The food was excellent especially the vorspeise which could be a meal in itself - a massive choice including smoked and fresh salmon. It was a 10 minute walk uphill from the town centre, but there's a bus stop a minute's walk away. It was so cold when we were there (in July!) that the outside pool was closed. A gondola (City Express) is 5 minutes' walk away which will take you to good walking country above the town.

  • Liked — The food
  • Disliked — The uphill walk to the hotel after a tiring day

We booked through Directski for a weeks skiing in March. We had been to Zell am See before so we knew where the hotel was. Unfortunately, due to the lack of low-snow, you couldn't ski back too easily to the hotel, one of the main reasons we booked the Waldhof. However, we can't blame anyone for that! Once we got over the general lack of snowiness in the Village (there was plenty of snow up high to really enjoy the weeks skiing), the Hotel worked out really well. We were lucky enough to be given a Suite in the main building which was lovely, even though we booked an ordinary room. We got an excellent deal - we booked in January - and looking at the websites for the same week next year its about 300euros each more expensive!! The food was lovely, the bar was inviting, the apres-ski food was often very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is a good 8 minute uphill walk from the Village but as a result, it's nice and quiet in the evenings. We didn't use the spa facilities at all but the outdoor pool got some good use in the evenings. Great for weary ski-legs.
Overall, it was a fabulous holiday and Zell is a lovely place to visit.

The rooms were certainly comfortable and lovely beds, and the chocolates when they turned down the room were appreciated. The breakfast however was uninspiring and the spa/ sauna area is only open from 16.30 to 18.30. Big disappointment as that meant having to cut short on the apres ski so we didn't get to use the facilities.
location was ok, a few minutes walk from town but too far to walk to any of the gondola's. I'd definately go back to Zell am See but for the price I'm not sure this is where I would stay.
As for the resort - was really impressed. Really pretty village, lovely lake, and fantastic mountain views. I can't comment on the snow though as there wasn't really any - but the lifts did seem to be well laid out.

Retired couple from Dublin
We stayed at this hotel for 1 week and it was just fantastic .
Clean.friendly. good food. terrific staff. always a smile on their faces and I'm sure it's not easy at times in the hotel trade.
This hotel made our holiday in Zell Am See even though the weather was a bit on the broken side.
The location might not be good for anyone with walking difficulty as it is up a steep hill from the town centre.
A special word of praise for the restaurant manager I still can see his smiling face as he sailed about at his work he never seems to have time off as he was on duty every day while we were there , this man really is in the right job.
Can't find enough stars for hotel.
