“Quiet and lovely staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We visited on the 12th Jan and were immediately struck by the friendly greeting. This continued throughout our stay from all the staff. The food was lovely and varied.
Our room was on the 2nd floor at the back and was quiet ie we were not woken by the normal rowdy activity that we have experienced in other ski hotels. The room was very clean although the furniture did have a few knocks.
The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the town centre but only 5 minutes from the ski lifts. The hotel also provides transport in the morning to other ski areas close by.
Would definitely recommend a visit and we are hoping to return next year.

Room Tip: We were in 201 which had a balcony and a sitting area/extra bedroom

My family have just stayed at the St. Georg for the 5th time and its still as good as ever. This was our 13th visit to Zell am See (summer and winter). Have stayed in 4 hotels, 2 apartments and the camp site and this is still our favourite.
Free WiFi is the only real change we noticed. The staff are wonderful - my daughter was ill and they were helpful and concerned (and I have just received an e mail asking how she is!). The room was beautiful and very clean. And the food - magnificent. I am still thinking about the wonderful buffet served on Friday night.
There are free apres-ski snacks in the bar every afternoon which keeps you going til dinner.
The pool is small but the couple of times I swam I was on my own so it was fine. My husband used the gym and found it adequate - there is plenty of outdoor exercise to be had!
Can't wait to go back.

This hotel was an absolute find! From the moment we walked in early evening on arrival we were met with a warm, friendly and personal service. Never have we stayed in a hotel where we felt ALL our needs were catered for. We were two families on a New Year skiing holiday with 4 children aged between 6 and 11 years. They were always made to feel welcome around the hotel and the staff in the restaurant were more than happy to cook meals for them off the menu if they didn't fancy what was on offer. Having said this, the food was probably the highlight of the visit. In particular, the New Years Eve gala dinner was we agreed unanimously one of the best meals we have had to bring in the New Year. Breakfast was a varied buffet and again the staff were more than happy to keep our children happy with an endless supply of freshly baked croissants. For skiers, the location of the hotel is perfect, only a 5 minute walk to the lift. We didn't use the ski room at the hotel as we had booked lockers at the lift. The hotel decor is really traditional and whilst this might not suit all travellers for us it made a truly welcome change from being in a 'run of the mill' chain hotel. All the staff were outstanding in terms of service but a special mention must be made of Karl the barman who was so obliging and delighted us on New Years Eve with his fireworks, together with his son! A huge thank you to the Sauper family for a wonderful stay, we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We received a lovely postcard from the family a week after we returned thanking us for our visit - I think this sums up the friendliness and commitment of all the staff.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom family rooms are perfect for families with 2 children.

Just got back from 1 weeks skiing holiday. Excellent location. Lovely hotel. Staff very friendly. Hotel food fantastic. The sauna and steam room are a welcome retreat after a hard days skiing. There is also a modern solarium and a small gym room. The bar/lounge area is very relaxing. What more can I say? To sum it up - Lovely hotel in a lovely resort.

Just got back from week at this hotel, we only booked it about 3 weeks before we went and chose this hotel based on the good reviews on TA & we weren't disapointed. The family and all the staff were very friendly and catered to any additional needs (we asked for extra pillows and got them by the time we came back from breakfast). I suffered with quite a bad cold for most of the week and Mrs Sauper would ask every day how I was feeling. The food was fantastic and despite skiing all week I'm sure I have piled on a few pounds. We often sat in the bar after dinner and this had a relaxed atmosphere, and you could catch up with others who had been out skiing or boarding that day. Location wise, as others have said it is a short 5 min walk down the road to one bubble lift or the Saupers do 3 trips each morning up the road to the other lifts, and if you miss these you can walk 5 mins up the road to the free shuttle bus. All areas of the hotel were very clean and there is a pool, sauna and small gym in the basement (altough we never did get round to using these) along with a room to store your skis and heated boot racks to store your boots. Zell itself is a lovely little town although after skiing we didn't go out in the town that much but it has some nice shops, bars and restuarants/cafes. The only reason I haven't rated this hotel excellent is because I felt the room we stayed in was a little bit tired (although very clean and beds very comfortable), the carpet had an iron burn in it, 2 out of 4 sockets didn't work, the walls could have done with a bit of bright paint (there were some scuff marks on them), 1 of the bulbs had gone above the mirror in the bathroom and as someone else said it would have been nice to have tea making facilities in the room, one other area (and it really is just a nice to have) would be a jacuzzi in the pool area. On saying this I would definitely reccomend this hotel to others as the staff, atmosphere, food and cleanliness made up for the above small issues.

Where to begin?! This hotel was completely perfect for our holiday.

Our holiday was a ski based trip, so firstly in terms of location - great!
You could walk slightly down the street and catch a local bus up to the slopes, however the hotel provided a morning bus that took us straight from the door. You can take a local bus back at the end of the day or there's a blue ski run which leads you all the way down too. Secondly, there was a room dedicated for ski gear on the ground floor so you could store everything and only people with a hotel key can get in.
Not only was our hotel in prime location for skiing, but it was fairly central to the main town so should you want to wander down to the shops or bars it's barely a 5min walk.

The hotel itself was beautiful outside and inside. Very homely, warm feeling with some of THE friendliest staff ever. They themselves had such a great influence on the enjoyment of our holiday - very attentive, helpful and approachable. Truly lovely people.

Breakfast and dinner were both excellent - we were provided with a buffet every morning and a 6 course meal every evening. All meals were beautifully prepared and all tasted amazing, a great opportunity to try real Austrian food! The only downside to this would perhaps be for anyone who considers themselves a really fussy eater, they might struggle. As whilst there's a lot of food provided, it is a set menu and there were not many alternatives should you not like what was being offered. However should you find yourself in this situation, fear not! There are are plenty of nice quirky restaurants in the town so you'll always find something.
One of our party had a birthday so we let the hotel know and they provided us with a cake!
The hotel also has a relaxing bar and a spa - which I recommend using. Really great way to wind down.

Overall the hotel for us gets 100% somewhere I'd definitely recommend to anyone. Perfect for friends, families, couples or even alone. Really welcoming atmosphere with loads to do and ideal slopes for any level of skier.

Room Tip: Although we didn't actually choose our room, I'd probably advise a room that surrounded by o...

Having stayed at the St Georg over Xmas with my family I would totally recommend it as a place to base yourself. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, more akin to being in someone's home rather than a hotel! The food is great with plenty of choice and the staff are really helpful (special mention for Karl, Livia and Lucas). The Hotel runs a morning ski bus which is ideal for hitting the slopes as it's only a 5 minute ride if that. Our room was ideal,on the 1st floor to the rear, looking in to the trees which made it lovely and quiet. We had 2 bedrooms with the children having their own tv,chairs etc. The Hotel has its own ski depot which is handy and can be accessed from either an inside or outside door. The Sauper's have got their Hotel just right, helpful and attentive without being intrusive!! I was praying my Xmas Day lottery numbers would come up so we could stay another week but it wasn't to be!! Even so it snowed regularly,it was a picture post card place and I swear it was the real Santa who appeared on Xmas Eve!! Zell am See is fantastic, beautiful mountains with a superb lake. The Town has some lovely shops and cafes and it's hard to believe there could be a more stunning place, even in Austria. Final words....go to the Hotel St Georg Zell am See, you won't regret it.
