We stayed in Room 23 which is on the top floor on the opposite side from the entrance in one of the rooms with a turret. Huge room with a sitting area in turret area with many windows and a view of the lake. All rooms now have large modern bathrooms.
Lots of steps to the top floor with no elevator. Front desk carried our bags up. It's a small hotel (about 9 rooms) and the staff at 6pm goes over to help in the restaurant across the way. No problem-you are given a key to use if you go out. Almost like having a castle to yourself at night. Good breakfast.
We had dinner one night in the 1 or 2 starred restaurant (Mayers) on the grounds. Very hip but with presentation seeming more important than the food. Lots of foam/infusion touches. Things like amuse bouche of cream of mushroom soup (tasted just like Campbells') using a pippet or another soup in a test tube. Small portions except for the desserts.
Good wine pairings with the dinner. Not worth the money to us who like good food ( excellent 3 star in France the week before) over presentation.
The second night we went to Lohnighof Restaurant in Thumerbach about a mile from the Schloss and had a very good dinner at a very resonable price. Seemed to be all locals on a Saturday night.
