“Fantastic!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2009

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Chalet Rasser with friends. We stayed there for the week beginning 17th Jan and had the whole chalet to ourselves.

The rooms were spacious and kept very clean by our chalet host Edie. We had the triple room and still had plenty of room for a baby cot. The dining room had plenty of space to accommodate all of us. The only small criticism was the bench seating was pretty uncomfortable - it could do with a bit more stuffing. You have to bear in mind that this is only a 2 star chalet but as long as you are not expecting 5 star luxury it is great.

Edie made us feel very welcome and for breakfast there would be cereals, toast, fresh bread, jam and a different cooked breakfast ranging from gypsy toast through to bacon and egg. Everyday we had a lovely cake waiting for us after a hard day on the slopes. The 3 course evening meals were also of a very good standard. She accommodated us all as we had 2 vegetarians and 3 children in our group. She even changed the meal times so we could all sit down together and eat when the children did. On her night off we had dinner a Crazy Daisies which I would really recommend.

All in all we had a fantastic time, snow was excellent and Zell am See is a lovely place.

We stayed at the Chalet Rasser from 3rd - 10th January. We absolutely loved it!!

It was great value for money. The Chalet was simple/ basic but clean and comfortable. It was a great location - a couple of minutes walk to the centre's bars, the city express ski lift and a couple of minutes walk to the bus stop for ski school.

Our Chalet host, Eidee, was absolutely lovely. She was friendly and very helpful. Her cooking was great too! We had a great choice at breakfast, a lovely afternoon cake and then a great three course evening meal with as much wine as we could drink! I've never seen such good value for money!

Check out the free local ski show every Wednesday just round the corner from the Chalet! You should also make sure you take the short bus ride to Kaprun - the snow there was much better than in Zell. Also - if you can try and visit Saalbach - it is only a short free bus ride away - there are loads more runs there!

Cant recommend the Chalet and area highly enough!

Enjoy!

I cannot recommend a stay at the Chalet Rasser highly enough.

The chalet is centrally located in Zell am See, on the main road, opposite McDonalds. It is a 5 minute walk from the main lift, which is called the City Express, and a 5 minute walk from the bus station which takes you to Kaprun and beyond.

It is small, accommodating only 13 guests, which only adds to the personal service we received from our chalet host, Alex.

The rooms are all different in layout. Some had baconies, others didn't. Most had a capsule-style bathroom, which entails a self-enclosed shower, sink and toilet. The decoration was simple and the rooms were clean.

The dining took place in a room on the floor below. The food was freshly prepared to a very high standard by Alex. A cooked breakfast was available every day excluding Wednesday. Afternoon cake and coffee was provided at 4pm, followed by a 3 course meal in the evening.

Some of the other guests had stayed at the Rasser before which is always a good sign. It cost £329 per person, on a half board basis, which represents very good value for money over the Easter holidays.

Tips:

Try the restaurant at the very top of the Schmittenhohe. They serve roasted chicken between 12-1 for lunch. It is delicious!

If you want food at the end of the night (McDs closes at 12), go to the train station where the kebab/pizza shop is open 24 hours.

The Hallenbad swimming baths are well worth a visit, but beware! You will be ejected from the sauna if you are not willing to go completely naked.

Plus points: central location, excellent service and quality of food, value for money

May cause some concern: Ski/ board/ boot storage is not secure during the day, not a hillside/ picturesque location typical of some chalets
