This is a excellent hotel, winter or summer, no frills just every thing you could possibly need. The swimming pool, Big with no fancy shapes, you can swim up & down the lanes all day. 2 super jakuzzi large enough for 6/8 people, Large weight room, sun beds, steam room & sauna. The bedrooms are very clean well appointed with a large bathroom ( big baths ). The staff are all very happy to assist you in any way they can, nothing seems too much trouble. there are a couple of restaurants, an italian serving food all day & a traditional austrian one serving 1st class food, at very reasonable prices. we stayed there in the skiing season & liked it so much returned in june & was not dissapointed. The resident manager Robert was always on hand to assist with any help we needed. can not wait to go back again.

Our room at the Alpenland Sporthotel in Sankt Johann im Pongau was comfortable, clean and very well maintained. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room (large even by American standards) and the great view from our private balcony. (Be sure and ask for a room in the back of the building, which faces the mountains. Those facing the front overlook a shopping mall.)

The staff was pleasant and efficient, helping us to map out routes to various destinations during our stay. Several roads were closed due to flooding or mud slides while we were in the area, and Christof at the front desk always provided accurate road closure information.

We didn't opt for any of their optional meal services. Their breakfast buffet looked very nice, but at $20 per person seemed a little overpriced. Most mornings we stopped at McDonald's (~5-7 minutes by car) on our way out of town. The cost there was less than $10 for two people.

We used their 6 euro/day parking garage, but probably could have gotten by with the free public parking down the street from the hotel. We just didn't want a hassle finding a parking space after a busy day of hiking and other activities.

The scenery around the hotel was magnificent. We can recommend a trip to the nearby gorge that provided an easy hike with some great photo ops. Hohenwerfen Castle, only one exit away on the autobahn, is also worth the trip. Be sure and catch the falcon and eagle show at the castle in mid-afternoon. Otherwise, simply taking scenic drives around the area will provide many beautiful views of the Austrian Alps.

Salzburg is around 30 miles away and is an easy trip by car, especially if you use the Sud Park and Ride which is conveniently located off the autobahn just south of the city limits. We also did day trips by car to Innsbruck and Patsch with plenty of time to explore these areas even allowing for the drive there and back.

We tried two restaurants close to the hotel for dinner. Silbergasser (a German restaurant) provided excellent food and service. We can't say the same for Cavalli (italian). We have provided separate Trip Advisor reviews for each of these establishments.

Overall, we can highly recommend Alpenland Sporthotel at Sankt Johann im Pongau. We found many things to like and absolutely no disappointments. We would definitely stay there again on a return trip to the Salzburg area.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room facing the back of the hotel for best mountain views.

We stayed here after depositing our week at our home time share. Those who have criticized Alpenland are way off the mark. The hotel is very, very clean. There was some furniture that was dated but I only saw a few pieces that could have been replaced. We had a very roomy one bedroom unit with a balcony that provided incredible views. The bathroom was large and had a huge tub. There were fresh towels daily and body and hair shampoo was provided. If you want bar soap it would be best to bring your own or purchase in town. Due to the rain we only had one day that we could sit out on the beautiful grounds of Alpenland. There is a supermarket across the street with not only food but also a great supply of wine, beer and liquor. The breakfast buffet was large and offered many different meats, cheese, breads, etc. You can also order your eggs cooked that come with ham or bacon. We are there daily for breakfast but did not eat in their formal dining room. We ate in their other less formal restaurant and the food was very good. We also ate at Cavalis which is right next door. Sankt Johann is a lovely little town with many nice shops and restaurants. It was very easy to navigate and a short walk to the train station. If you arrive by train I would recommend taking a taxi to the hotel since the walk from the train station is a very steep uphill walk. We took the train to do a day trip to Salzburg. If you are with other couples or a family it is cheaper to get the group rate which the attendant at the station told us about. We also took a day trip by train to Zell am See. I would highly recommend going there. It is a absolutely beautiful little town located on a lake. We took the boat tour of the lake which was about 45 minutes. It is well worth doing this for the photographs that you can take. It rained all but one day that we stayed and we luckily planned Zell am See for that sunny day. There are tours that you can take that the hotel books but many of them need a minimum number of people for the tour to go out.
While we were there the feast day of Corpus Christi was happening. This involved a parade and a beer tent. The festivities were just around the corner and since it was another rainy day we spent quite a bit of time in the tent listening to the band, enjoying local beer and eating the chicken and french fries cooking on a spit. Delicious!!! Most of the Austrian crowd was wearing native dress and it was a great way to spend another rainy afternoon!!! We also rented a car which the front desk staff arranged. We did a day trip to Werfun and Hallein. We had hoped to go to Halstatt but the rain deterred us.
I commend the front desk staff who were so very helpful in meeting our needs for car rental and suggestions of sights to see. It was a great stay despite the rain and the temperatures!!!

We stayed here for a week as part of our timeshare with Interval International.
Right from check in the hotel staff were excellent. They spoke very good English and were friendly and helpful. The lady who did our check in and the lady in the Austrian restaurant were particularly good.
As far as facilities go, the outdoor tennis courts were extremely good - it was lovely to pay with the mountains in the background. The pool was quiet most of the time and it was nice to have a decent sized room for table tennis. Contrary to other reports on here, all the machines in the exercise room worked well.
The rooms were a good sized with plenty of storage. Kettles can be requested from reception and the only shortfall was the number of plug sockets available. WiFi was €18 for the week and parking in the underground car park was €35.
We ate twice in the Italian restaurant and 3 times in the Austrian - both were good but beware the size of the desserts in the Austrian one!
Overall, an excellent stay and we are already looking at a return visit!

Just back from a week in the hotel and had absolutely no problem at all. We were on a walking holiday and the hotel provided us with all we required in terms of comfort and location. I had read a number of reviews before we came so knew what to expect - it certainly isn't "a horror". The staff were pleasant enough when we asked for help and advice:- I knew there were no tea / coffee making facilities in the rooms but taking the advice of previous visitors I asked for a kettle at reception and got one...simple really though they could perhaps put this in the rooms as a standard. Similarly we wanted extra pillows for the beds - so asked and got them. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. We ate in the hotel twice and found the food to be fine - in fact the main courses were overfilling. Perhaps we are easily pleased and don't expect to be waited on hand and foot but being from Scotland we are pretty much capable of adapting to any situation without moaning about things. So don't be put off by negative reviews - remember you are in Austria where the people are a bit more reserved at first - and what may seem like ungracious staff is just the way they are...always find a smile and politeness on our part works a treat wherever we go.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms on the west side prevent a view of the mountains so before you go suggest you emai...

We stayed here on a timeshare certificate we won in a raffle. The hotel is in a great location for the town of St. Johann as we were able to walk around to most stores and restaurants.

The rooms are a little dated but they were rather clean and comfortable. There is no a/c, but staying at the beginning of May we were able to just sleep with the sliding glass doors open and it was great (no bugs). Don't think I'd want to stay in the summer though.

You do have to pay for wi-fi. It was 18 euro for a "week" which was actually 30 hours (so remember to log off your device when not actively using it...it lasted all week for us). Parking was 35 for the week, which came in handy. There is plenty of parking on the street, however.

The staff was very helpful with any questions we had and spoke great English. Austria seems to have some of the most welcoming people I have met!

The bartender was very nice. She had the keg changed on the Keller beer I wanted to try when it was blown.

They asked for a tourist tax to be paid upon check-in in cash (12.50), but we didn't have any when we first arrived.

At check-out we did have one breakfast charge that wasn't ours (we didn't eat breakfast there), which they removed after seeing the ticket wasn't my signature (I'm sure an honest mistake).

If we ever make it back to Sankt Johann Im Pongau, we would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor facing the front, which was a little noisy when people were walking aro...

Upon arrival from Paris to this hotel, we were shocked. The hotel was in need of a cleanup and update to say the very least. terrible bedding, filthy couch, stained lampshades, burn marks on the carpet. Looked gorgeous when we looked online. The workout facility sported out of order equipment. The staff was not gracious. We thought we were checking into a four star resort. We checked out after twenty four hours and headed for BOscolo hotel in Venice which was incredible. I cannot think of anything nice to say about ape land sport hotel except that the scenery around the hotel was beautiful.
