“A great family place to stay with fun childcare.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

Our one week skiing in the Austrian alps was made all the more easy by staying here. The service was friendly and very helpful, I enjoyed talking to the desk staff to find out about life in the village. With 3 and 6 year old skiers in Activ Skischule we set off to ski the circus. Dispite spring conditions we enjoyed skiing the sun baked slopes. The ski school did a great job with the kids especially getting our 3 year old boy getting him skiing the poma independently after 4 days. We had great meals in the hotel and out. The kinder club in the hotel allowed the kids to have fun while we relaxed. Having a pool in house was also good fun.

I have used the feedback from other travellers in choosing this hotel, so I felt it would be helpful to pass on to others our experience.

We have stayed at Adler with my wife and our daughter (7) for our winter holiday. As soon as we arrived, we had a pleasant surprise, we were offered a free upgrade to a larger apartment at the top floor, with great views to the centre of Hinterglemm. Rooms was as described on the net, Wi-Fi working really well, covered private parking etc. The ski depot is excellent and is literally 25 m from the slope, couldn't be better.

This is a hotel that focuses clearly on families and does it really well. You feel at ease with all the staff, all of them extremely friendly, ready to help and understand that kids are kids. No moaning if your kid spills a drink on a table or runs around the restaurant, everybody understands why they are there. All facilities for children are good, including the playground (the girl there is really nice, our daughter loved her), the swimming pool etc. There are laundry washing facilities that can be used, in case you need them.

The food buffet was really good both in the morning and in the evening. One small negative here is the quality of the desserts, which we felt was far below the rest of the food. I would have expected to be able to have a proper traditional Austrian dessert like Apfel Strudel or Kaiserschmarren many times, but it wasn't really the case. Most desserts were mousse based, and although had different colours and flavours really tasted very similarly. However, overall the quality of food was very good.

There just 2 things to improve:
- the bed matrasses are too soft. Not sure if this is the case in all the rooms.
- the shower on the top floor had low pressure for water. This was OK, but because of it there were sometimes sudden changes in the temperature of the water, probably depending on the usage of hot water on the lower floors. This is unpleasant for an adult, but worse for a kid. I kind of suspected the upgrade we got was a compensation for this fact, we were OK with it overall.

Stuill overall, the experience was very good and recommend this hotel to families with kids.

nice, clean all inclusive hotel with many activities for children- pool, nursery, comnputer games, special children menu/. the food was very good with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables+free drinks and minibar in room. the cons: far away from the ski school- about 15 minutes for a small child (you can take a taxi or shuttle). for adults- the nearest gondola takes you to the side of the mountain where (in our opinion) the pistes are shorter, the scenery isnt as nice and there is less variety then the other mountain)
great fitness room with lots of the best equipment and huge wellness area. free wi fi if you bring your laptop- although very slow

We had a great stay at the Adler. This hotel seems to sucessfully strike the balance of offering a top level of service and comfort, whilst being relaxed and friendly towards families. Food - nearly all served on a buffet basis - was excellent - expecially Gala night. Rooms well furnished. We stayed in a 1 bed appartment, which was fine for 2 adults and 2 children (children were on the comfy sofabed in the lounge area), and enabled us to have 2 separate sleeping areas within the one room. Some rooms are larger and more luxurious, at a price of course. Games room, kids club, and amazing pool area, all adding to the "top end" family experience. Staff extremely helpful in all respects. Huge, well set up ski room - the best I have ever used. Two points to note - the hotel is up a slight hill and this can be a bit of a struggle to walk up with kids and their kit - make sure you do not miss the ski bus back to the hotel! And the hotel kids club was great for our older children (aged 6 and 8 years), but did not seem so suitable for under 5 year olds.
Overall, we loved it!

We had a group of 2 families stay at the Aparthotel Adler for the Christmas week in December 2006. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and our friends in a 1 bedroom apartment. We were given adjacent rooms and were pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms and the fantastic views from our balcony. (see photo attached)

The hotel has all the facilities you could want, great pool/sauna area, great (new) kids play areas, and excellent storage facilities for ski equipment. The hotel is maintained in very good condition. The hotel was expanded in 2006, so the kids play room, kids and several rooms are basically brand new.

The hotel is a 2 minute walk up the hill from the Reiterkogel lift and the ski hire shop - ideal. The hotel also runs a bus to the ski school, which would otherwise be a 15-20 minute walk.

We took the all-inclusive package and were really impressed by the quality of the food. They catered extremely well for both adults and children. The staff were great too.

Between the 2 families we had 3 kids, aged 4, 3 and 1. As far as the kids were concerned the only problem we encountered was that the crèche didn't look after children under 3 and was only staffed from 3pm to 9pm each day. This arrangement is prefect for families with kids who are old enough to go to ski-school during the day, and then use the crèche in the evenings. We ended up hiring a babysitter each day while we went skiing. The hotel arranged it for us and cost 10 Euros an hour, which we thought was good value.

Overall we were really we were really happy with our hotel choice. We loved Hinterglemm, and from our perspective was a much better choice than Saalbach for younger families.

In case you were wondering, it only snowed once while we were there, but the snow machines were working overtime and the ski conditions were remarkably good.

  • Liked — Great location, great rooms, great food, and friendly staff.
  • Disliked — Creche hours not long enough.
