“Luxurious, hospitable family run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Stayed here with Christmas with both our parents. It was a fantastic stay. It is as staying with family. The owners try to make you feel as part of their family and arranged special events for Christmas: welcome father Christmas, ski trips etc. The hotel is situated a bit outside the “city center”of Saalbach. It is about a 20 min walk into town. However this is hardly necessary as one of the big benefits of this hotel is that they have their own shuttle service. These two Volkswagen vans are there to bring you to the lifts in Saalbach in the morning and pick you up in the afternoon (between 16-17.00 hrs), if you want a pick up earlier just call one of the drivers. Further if you want to go into Hinterglemm, the ski bus stop is just on the main road so also very convenient. It is also possible to ski to the hotel on the blue run (24a, with the last part not being prepared, so not for the beginner).
The hotel itself is a bit away from the main road in between Saalbach and Hinterglemm. Which is nice because you won’t hear any traffic. There are two kind of rooms, modern and “traditional”. We stayed in the traditional rooms. They are fine, big beds, lost of space, traditional Austrian woods and I believe most of them have a balcony. The view is not spectacular, however this is mostly because the valley of Saalbach is quite narrow. However if you stay a bit higher you can have a view into Hinterglemm. We got a glimpse of the modern rooms, they look fine, modern interior but I wouldn’t pay more money for them.
We stayed on Half board basis. Food is great. In the afternoon they have a jausen when you came back from skiing. This is nice, most of the better Austrian hotels we stayed in have this. It was Ok but we had better ones, most of the food would be mixed left over from the day before, but still good quality. Then dinner, the quality of the food was just perfect, we enjoyed it very much. Wines are a bit pricey, but the house wines they serve a fine. The only but important negative thing about dinner was that on Christmas evening it took a awful long time to get our food, this really has to improve. I think it was mainly due to the kitchen, because the waiters were waiting to serve the food.
Next evening it was better, but still service can be a bit slow. So I hope they try to improve this.
Also the bar area is a bit small, there is a bigger area, however people are allowed to smoke there so you we did not want to sit there.
Further: there is a very nice wellness area in the hotel. This is a separate house on the main road which you can access from the hotel. First you enter in the swimming pool, which can be a bit busy when the hotel is full. Then if you continue you will find a small fitness room and then you will enter the wellness (sauna area). This is very nice, different kinds of sauna, a place to relax with lots of space (free use of two I pads!) . Possibility to cool down outside on the balcony. Very nice after a day of skiing.
Saalbach-Hinterglemm is very nice for every kind of skier. Lots of possibilities to ski in different areas.
So if you are looking for a luxurious family run hotel, and don’t mind staying a bit outside Saalbach. This is really the place to be.

Spent 11 nights here this Summer and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are very friendly & helpful, the food is great and extremely good value on their 'all-in' package. We were on a mountain biking holiday and the hotel had a secure bike room and a hose-pipe to clean your bike. Afternoon coffee and cake was always very welcome after our ride and use of the sauna & spa facilities helped with the relaxation. All this was included in the price as well as drinks all day long. Although we didn't use it much the free use of the ski lift system in the resort was nice to have. Our room was very modern, clean and comfortable with a balcony to the front of the hotel and plenty of space to sit and read. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
The only thing that people should be aware of which may or may not influence your wish to stay here is that this hotel is very popular for families with children.

We stayed 6 nights in march 2012 at this hotel in Saalbach. We arrived late at night. My first impression was that they didn't expect us, they almoust laughed when we arrived and said we had a reservation. They wanted to see it, and I thought to myself "now we have to find somewhere else to stay".. Luckily it was all in my head, and our room on the third floor was waiting for us. The elevator was SMALL, and the receptionist stood in there with us with all of our gear to show us the room. The room was spacious and nicely decorated and gave a mountain-vacation-feeling combined with luxury. Flat screen TV, no A/C (but we had fresh air, so whats the point..). I slept like a baby, and the next morning we had the hotel breakfast, which was amazing. A chef made omelettes on demand, and there were good bread - and pastries. The hotel owner himself went around and checked that everything was in order, and wished everybody at the tables a good morning. After breakfast it was time for some serious skiing. The hotel had a locker room for skigear in the basement, and the boots were heated and ready for a day in the slopes. The hotel had an own shuttle service, and the guests can choose drop off points in the area Saalbach/Hinterglemm. So "ski - taxi out" - and also "ski in" - there were a blue transport slope who took us straight to the hotel. The sauna area was really relaxing and nice. I can also recommend the hotel dinner, we had a 5 course dinner for 29 euro per pax. A good price, and good value. The waitresses could possible use a english lession or two, but it was quite charming aswell - the lack of communication ;) All in all we had a wonderful stay.

Situated on the outskirts of Saalbach this hotel is perfect in every way. The staff, from the owners to the maids are all very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The cleanliness of hotel is immediately obvious. Our room was on the 2nd floor at the side, all rooms have a balcony and we had a nice view. Location means it’s quiet, ensuring a good night’s sleep, you can even request a herb pillow.
The dining facilities were excellent. A huge array of breakfast available. Cold meats, cheeses, salad, breads, cereals, fresh honeycombs, traditional hot options along with an omelette station, a facility to cook your own boiled eggs and a fresh juicer.
Afternoon tea, 4 - 5pm, plenty of cakes, bread, cheese, cold meats and always a hot option.
Dinner, 7 - 9pm, comprised of 5 courses (sometimes 7!) every night. The food was presented in a fabulous manner and tasted delicious.
A free mini bus shuttle service to the lift stations was greatly appreciated.
The Wellness area is exceptional. The pool can get busy from 4 – 6 and we were there during school holidays. But the sauna/steam and relaxing rooms are for 15 years +.
Complimentary robes, slippers and toiletries. Large towels, sheets changed every 4 days, chocolates on your pillow daily are all the great little finishing touches that make your stay complete.
And of course I mustn’t forget Alfred who provided the best massages, reflexology and various other treatments (additional charges)
We had a fabulous time and would recommend highly to friends and family.

This Hotel was everything I had hoped for.Lovely room with lots of space , very clean and comfortable. The five course meal every night was excellent and the waiters were so helpful and happy. A very pleasant shock we received when we got there , was that we each received 80 euros towards our bill at the end of the week !! Therefore we did try the wine list as well as the draft Zipfer ! Lovely week and will gladly return there again. The ski ing was good too , although a little slushy towards two o'clock, which we had expected. The Hotel shuttle bus took us to some of the lifts and the ski bus is only 4 minutes walk away. So if you want to treat yourselves then give Hotel Sonne a try you will not regret it

There were five of us in February 2012 visiting for a ski holiday. I had a single room on the third floor. It looked out onto the back and was very quiet. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom had only a shower but was perfectly satisfactory and there was hot water even at 1830 when all the guests were showering. One of my friends had a more modern room which looked even better but I was quite happy with mine. Housekeeping was good too. The room was clean and the sheets changed during the week. It was Carnival week in Bavaria, Austria and possibly the Netherlands too so the hotel was bursting with families. Nevertheless Camilla paid attention too us and helped us to get orientated. All the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and made us feel very welcome. The food was very good and they managed to feed us well despite the numbers of people. The sommelier was excellent and made some very good suggestions for our drinking. I liked the bar area. The bus service to the slopes worked very well and we never had to wait long to get to the lift. I would recommend this hotel
