“Deception”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

Stayed there in December 2012/January 2013 for New Year's Eve. One of the worst rooms ever had, broken bed, toilet unusable and out of order. Arriving at 11pm, nobody at the reception, no heating, etc. briefly a nightmare.
Fortunately, on the next day but only after a series of tiring negotiations we were able to change into a room where at least everything was working.

Don't stay there!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Just back from a weeks skiing with my 17 y/o son. This hotel is everything it claims to be, I booked as for a base for our activities, not as the focus of our holiday.
Note to previous contributors; you get what you pay for, if you want 4 or 5 star service then book an appropriate hotel and pay the appropriate amount. We had a well equipped, clean, modern room with 2 double beds; serviced daily including replacement towels (the room was on the third floor which is recently renovated). The breakfast is continental as advertised, and matches the fare on the pictures, I left the hotel well fed each morning. Three of the five skibus routes pass the door (stop is just opposite front door), and a ski-hire/school is located in the hotel building (shared reception so the ski-hire personnel manned the desk all day). I could not fault the hotel as a base for our weeks skiing, and will return if skiing in Mayrhofen again, and I'll be recommending to all and sundry.

Room Tip: Request a room on the 3rd floor, newly renovated.

This is a small hotel that is (at least in the summer) run like a B&B. It is conveniently located in the center of Mayrhofen within 2-3 blocks of the train/bus station. The people were very helpful (and kept our luggage while we were hiking for 5-6 days), and the breakfast was a wonderful buffet. Be aware that the desk is only manned in the morning and from 5-6 PM -- if you arrive other times, they just leave a room key out for you, and a phone number to call if problems. It is in a somewhat noisy location -- near a church (with bells every 15 min), near some traffic, and across the street from an old hotel with an outside bar and a traditional "um pa pa" Austrian band until 10PM (2 accordians, tuba, guitar, and harp!). You can shut out most of the noise if you close the windows -- but they it gets hot (in Aug). Even with, we slept well and I would return if we hiked there again.

I totally agree with the previous comments: noone to wait at your arrival and to open the door (if you have not a mobile....you are lost!!) and for a 3 star S it is unbelievable......no lift and if you stay, as me, at the third floor........it would be very stressfull to carry your luggage....no change of towels during the whole week, even if they were totally wet!!! The towels were too small for any adult.......the ski room is only a warm cellar but no boots rack! And finally we had to buy toilet paper!!!!!! Thanks to the Billa supermarket, your awakenings will be very early in the morning.......No more here.

Just returned fro a fantastic holiday to Mayrhofen. Hotel Postchlossl as it is now known is superbly located, if a little close to the church bells (96 bells at 7am daily!) it's just a pity the owner doesn't take a little more interest in the upkeep of the 'hotel'. Rooms are spacious and breakfast adequate but there were many minor faults with the accomodation which could have been easily remedied. It didn't spoil our stay but our expectations weren't too high. We even took catching a mouse in our room in our stride! Food at the Hotel Berghof was exceptional and service 1st class. Basically the old adage 'you get what you pay for is true'. For those seeking luxury go elsewhere, for value for money and a bit rough rough arounfd the edges look no further.

Room Tip: Church side gets the bells, the opposite side gets the Bella supermarket delivery wagon every day, s...

My husband stayed here last year felt it to be good value for money. Knowing what to expect we found a last minute deal and both came to the PostSchlossel. But...since last year's visit there has been a distinct cutting back on both the service and the quality of the food. The limited breakfast buffet was the same every day including tinned peaches and cordials so diluted you weren't sure what you were drinking. Fresh fruit was only available for the early birds- the limited supply of apples or oranges weren't replenished. We knew that reception was manned only during breakfast, but the person in charge was so rushed off her feet that it would have been dificult to sort out any problems with her, in addition she spoke little English. The evening meal was a set menu with no choice and a salad bar on 3 occasions only. Our room wasn't hoovered at all during our stay and by mid week I had to ask for the towels to be changed, I doubt if they would have been otherwise. A number of handles and knobs were missing from the bedroom furniture. An interior door handle regularly fell off. Monday is the cleaner's day off. The charming 'hotel' exterior belies it's true nature - more of a B and B or hostel suited to exhausted skiers during the winter season who are just wanting somewhere to kip before hitting the slopes again. I think the holiday companies using this hotel should be more realistic in what holidaymakers are getting for their money. The only point in its favour is its central location; ideal for the train and bus stations, lifts and shops. Mayrhofen is a wonderful place to visit and whilst there you must: hire bikes and cycle alongside the river, buy a 'Z' card €50 each from Europahaus to take advantage of using the buses and trains and swimming pool free of charge (steam trains are extra and journeys out of the valley are extra too), take a bus to the Zillergrund dam and walk up to Paulaner Hutte and/or 'Little Tibet' which is at the end of the dam, take a local train to Jenbach and pick up the cog train for Achensee, or just keep hopping on and off buses and lifts to explore this beautiful area- a week isn't long enough to do it justice.

Having read the negative reviews for this guesthouse,I was pleasantly surprised to find a clean comfortable property. I do think people should take into consideration the price paid for the holiday before complaining about little things like the bathroom mirror being chipped,or the towels being a bit thin,if you want 4 star dig a bit deeper and pay more. The breakfast was plentiful and presented well, the rooms were kept clean, and the guesthouse was in a good position. As for Inghams they were professional and friendly at all times.
ps. the guesthouse is now called the postschlossl.
