“Home from home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2012

We have just come back from our third visit to The Kramerwirt hotel, Mayrhofen and I can honestly say this was the best trip so far. We have always been treated as part of the family at the Kramerwirt which made our decision to return with our newborn baby an easy one; the Kroll family certainly didn't let us down.
Upon arrival we were greated by Frau Kroll (as she does with all of her guests) then we were helped to unload our cars and get settled into our rooms.
The rooms themselves were immaculate, spacious and comfortable enabling us to spread out the MANY pieces of equipment needed not only for a skiing holiday but also to keep an eight month old entertained.
Part way through the week our daughter came down with a typical British cold and the hotel staff were so accommodating and ensured that we could have anything necessary to make her comfortable and allay any fears two newborn parents, two grandparents and an Aunt and Uncle may have had. (A huge toast to Christian for sorting out food trays and Ice cream)
If it is at all possible the food this time round was better than previous times with a vast array of choice and variety Gordan Ramsey would be proud of.
Overall this was a very special holiday for us as new parents and The Kramerwirt family/staff didn't let us down for a second. We all can't wait to return and get our little munchkin onto a pair of skis.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are that little bit extra but certainly worth it.

We returned to the Kramerwirt because we enjoyed our first visit in 2011 and liked the convenience of the location for skiers and non-skiers. Our double aspect (superior) room was spacious, comfortable and conveniently situated on the first floor. We were not disturbed by church bells. The staff are friendly and well trained. The food is excellent with two good buffet evenings. The ski bus stops outside and the train station is only a couple of minutes away.

We spent an enjoyable week in Mayrhofen, hotel was slightly disappointing on arrival. Room was not ready with towels strewn on floor where cleaner was mid way through preparation. Rooms although large, were very tired looking with old pine furniture. Very warm and sometimes too warm with no temperature control and walls as thin as paper, could hear the couple in the room next door speaking clearly. The roof top spa was not free of charge to guests as expected, €5.50 per visit and €20 deposit for a robe. This was not on any adverts we read and extremely disappointing. Apart from this, the food was very good and waitress service extremely friendly. Location was great and despite being next door to a church with a clock tower, we didn't hear the bells once.

Room Tip: Maybe not the second floor as you can hear guests directly below and above.

Just back from a one week ski-ing trip in Mayrhofen. We read the reviews prior to leaving and went with an open mind. We stayed in the Annexe which was a 30 second walk from the main hotel. We did not notice any noise from the supermarket, yes the bells chimed every 15 mins and very loudly at 7 am and 7pm but if you love Austria, then church bells are part of the ambience. We actually miss them now that we are back home. Rooms are beautiful with traditional austrian beds, very comfortable, feather duvets and large pillows. Windows open fully so you can control the temperature of your room and it is possible to turn off the radiators if you wish. Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful and could not do enough for you. The food was amazing, four course meal every evening of the highest quality. Buffet breakfast. There were a couple of buffet meals in the evening but this did not reduce the quality of the food. It just meant that we ate more because we wanted to try a little of everything, knowing that it would all be delicious. The hotel was extremely child friendly too although we were not travelling with children ourselves. Yes the spa was nude only but when in Austria, do as the Austrians do. I have to say that I did not pluck up the courage but maybe next time. For 4 Euros per day you can request tea and coffee facilities in your room, this is refilled daily and was worth every penny. The ski buses stopped directly outside the hotel and were every 15 mins. The hotel has a heated ski storage room with easy access. We were very sad to be leaving this beautiful place last Saturday and cannot wait to return. I was tempted not to write a review and to keep this place a secret but decided to do so since it is only fair to the owners since they go to such trouble to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable stay. This was our best ski holiday ever and I put this down to the wonderful accommodation, friendliness in Mayrhofen and amazing weather.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room, annexe or main hotel.

We stayed in kramerwirt in March 2011 on a ski holiday and it sadly didnt live up to expectations. It is a traditional austrian hotel and decorated in that way & the cleanliness and quality of the hotel is fine - but a few annoyances will mean I would never come hear again.

Bathroom - strange sliding glass door which didnt provide any sound installation - I had a dodgy stomach all week and not having a proper door wasnt very pleasant
The food was distictly average, with many buffet nights over the week which I wasnt expecting. I wished we hadnt had a half board option.
Every time we went for breakfast we couldnt get back into our room as it was being cleaned - this delayed us getting to the slopes in the morning.
The church bells - didnt get much sleep due to the chiming - not the hotels fault, but wish this was advertised by them at time of booking so you are aware of it.

I can see this hotel would be very charming and quirky for some, but unfortunately it wasnt for me.

This review isn't intended to be negative as the hotel is lovely but there are some areas you need to be aware of before booking.

1. The church bells - this has been covered in other reviews and in responses from the hotel its self on this site. The hotel is situated right next to a church with loud bells, its not their fault but you should be aware of this before booking. The bells are very very very loud no matter what room your in. They chime on the hour, quarter past the hour, half past the hour and quarter to the hour. At 7am and 7pm they chime 112 times... yes you heard that right - 112 times and using the loudest bell they have. I took industrial ear plugs after reading other posts on this site they had little effect.

2. The Spa in the hotel - this is a nude only spa, some of you might not be bothered and tell me they are all like this in Austria. But I still think it should be your choice to wear clothes or not. Effectively this means you will be paying for the spa and not using it. I think Austrian hotels need to address this as not one of the 100 UK guests staying that week used the Spa - surely this is a big enough message for management?

3. The annexe - if your put in the annexe be aware that it is on top of a supermarket as such their are deliveries all day and night by noisy trucks and cages of deliveries coming in and out of the building all day - again very noisy.

4. The staff - wanted to finish off on a big positive, the staff are amazing, every single one of them was a credit to the hotel. Austrians understand hospitality completely and will make you feel at home straight away and this hotel is no exception.

Thank you very much for having chosen our hotel and we appreciate all your positive comments. Perfection is difficult to attain and we cannot please everybody’s expectations.

The hotel is situated next to the church and some guests might be sensitive by church bells or street noise, some are not. In the brochure of the travel agency you’ve booked in you were told that there is a supermarket below the annexe, which might have noisy delivery in the morning. Make sure that this is always a point when booking a hotel near the centre.

It is very important to understand the cultural diversities of the country you are going to visit. For example in Austria and Sweden it is not considered appropriate to wear bathing clothes in the sauna at all. We offer a covering towel if you feel embarrassed. Have you read the information booklet in your room?
