We have just returned from Christmas family ski trip in Salzburg, Kaprun.
The snow was fantastic sadly the hotel was shocking in every way. The hotel is dirty beyond belief and the staff that ran it christmas week were young and unable to speak english, were rude and at one stage stuck there fingers up at me. We have never experienced such poor service before. It was so awful that it was hard to drag ourselves back to the hotel after being out on the pistes all day.
We stayed in a three star hotel,we had visited Kaprun previously in the same star rating hotel, however this hotel had a class of its own.
The food was sold to us as a 4 course meal each night,it was in fact a salad bar made up of carrots, tinned runner beans, beet-root , lettuce and cabbage mixed together, the second course was soup in urns that was not particularly tasty. The third course was anything from spaghetti bolognese(twice in one week) to dumplings in vanilla sauce, there was a vegetarian choice and a meat choice,if you did not like it that was tough.Although I adore austrian cuisine this was just appauling. The desserts consisted of cold apple strudels left on a table or one night we even had bananas with chocolate ice-cream sauce.......just thrown on a platter.
The gala christmas dinner (served on Christmas Eve) was sammon with wedges or chicken with wedges. The actual Christmas Day dinner was very fatty beef goulash, cold rice, followed by slices of cake,I don't mean a tasty gate-au either.
The staff were so rude when challenged, they threatened to call the police if I changed the allocated tables. They also told me to ask them for nothing all week and were verbally abusive towards me refusing to give a name,I in-fact found out this women's name...Lisa........ Who was the rudest person I have ever met.
The bed linen was tatty and the carpets were stained and smelly, they did not clean are room the whole week we were there!!!
The entire holiday cost just under £2000- and really was not value for money(just for the hotel, not including ski passes etc).
After I tried to complain they gave us cold food and at the end presented us with a bar bill of which we had not run up.
We had to eat out at restaurants in Kaprun.
The resort itself is lovely and the ski-ing is fantastic but this hotel which was taken over in Nov 2007 really is a disgrace.
The best advice is don't use this hotel,I have travelled all over the world and this is possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!!!
