“Great Last Evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

A great way to spend our last evening after a weeks skiing and quite a few aching muscles. We paid 18 Euros each for 3 hours to use the pools,we were not prepared to pay an extra 9 Euros to use the saunas. The best experience was being in a lovely warm outdoor pool at night while it was snowing. The rapid pool was good fun, as was the dark room with the jacuzzi in the middle. Remember to take your biggest towel and your bathrobe, otherwise you will have to hire.

A strange one this. On the one hand we have a brand new hotel and spa in the middle of the alps. The view is sensational, the facilities top-notch, and if you're anywhere near Kaprun/Zell it really is a "must visit".

But.... it has a couple of really big negatives for me, and having read these reviews I'm clearly not the only one.

Firstly the staff. There are very few, and certainly none around the pool areas. The staff that they do have range from acceptable to downright rude. We had a "VIP" pass and when we visited the VIP reception we were totally ignored by the receptionist. Her phone call and chatting to a male colleague seemed to be far more important. When she finished her call she just wandered off.

Secondly, the pools are at least 50% full of young couples either having sex or being damned close to doing so. I'm no prude, but at best the behaviour is a little embarrassing, at worst it's a reason never to go again.

One other positive though was the restaurant. (You can't go in without some kind of footwear so take some). Once you're in though you'll find very decent value and darned nice things to eat. The goulash soup for example is quite excellent.

Would I visit again? Yes, probably because the apartment we always stay at offers a free pass. Would I recommend the Tauern Spa to others? Probably, but you might get annoyed by poor staffing and the whole "youngsters almost having sex" thing.

This is a great hotel. It is not the traditional style which can be find all over Austria, but very fresh and modern concept. The hotel spa is excellent and the roof top pool with amazing view is a must see! Good staff at the reception, less perfect at the hotel lobby bar. Amazing breakfast selection. Once you are there, don't miss the public spa as well as it is really nice.

Thanks for excellent time we spent there!! There are two zones. One - with several swimming pools (outdoor and indoor). The second is -sauna zone. There are nearly 10 saunas and steam baths the different temperature, smells, humidity

The spa area is amazing with indoor and outdoor pools. You really have to taste it. Service is poor. For the spa area you have to pay and extra charge. There is no reliable personal on the whole area.

The hotel is huge with abundant covered parking spaces and direct access to multiple swimming pools and spa areas. The infrastructure is modern and clean. The personnel was extremely friendly and accommodating. There was a varied buffet foreseen for dinner. The view of the mountains from the balcony was splendid.

We had the panorama apartment which was absolutely fabolous - to open the courtais in the morning and se just the green fields with the Alp mountains behind...I just couldn´t wait till the morning.
The outside hotel pool with warm water was also like in a heaven.
The only troubles we had was the hotel management itself. It is a very big hotel, I think about 400 rooms and the additional services were not of such a level as expected (and marketed).
For example, we booked a 2 e-bikes for a little bike trip, when we came to collect the bikes the hotel staff realized that one bike is broken and therefore they can not rent it to us. Well, I decided to take normal mountain bike, but to my surprise the fourth one was functional and able to ride.
Also do not book the spa package if you plan to stay over the weekend. The weekends are very busy and the Masage and wellness centre is overbooked. We had a 100Eur credit as part of our spa package but could not use it as the wellness centre was overbooked. The hotel manager also didn´t agree to transfer the credit for our next winter stay (as I wanted to make the reservation immediately). We were told we can only buy some cosmetics products....well, this is not what you really expect from your wellness weekend.
My expirience: next time we will book in some small butique hotel with personalized service and will come to the public spa which also worth to visit.

Room Tip: panorama view - worth to pay little extra
