Only the 2nd time I had seen a US President up close. Jimmy Carter is special to me because he was the president when I was in high school, so I considered him "my" president. I also admire the man greatly. The deal is that he teaches sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains on weeks which are listed on their web site. Mr. Jimmy, as he is called by the locals and as visitors are invited to call him, is a warm, caring and genuine person. Ms. Roslyn still looks the same as she did during Mr. Jimmy's presidency. They are an incredibly cute couple even after 50+ years together. I could just feel the love and respect they share between them. About half the town is now a national historic site, so there is plenty to see in the town and nearby. This was a wonderful travel experience which I would strongly recommend to anyone who is a fan of the Carters or who would just like to visit a very charming small southern town.
