“Colonial and traditional feeling with extraordinary quality service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

Even though we did not spend the night our short stay for lunch was delightful. The service was kind and very proffesional. We ate beneath the pool a coconut rissoto with filet mignon and a mango fruit smoothy.

Access to the hotel from the main road is being improved and three new bridges being built, but for the time being as the rainy season is starting, I would suggest a 4x4 to be on the safe side. The Hotel has seven suites and there are also are some beach villas and lofts a little distance away.
My review is of the hotel. In the last few weeks it has been taken over, in terms of management by the Mantis Group. I understand from the new manager Dale Moffitt, they intend to update and make it a more upmarket hotel. In view of the new management it is difficult to offer a constructive assessment as there were many items that needed attention and they have not had time sort them out. As it stands it is a charming property and a delightful location, nice pool and ambiance. They have lost the old chef and until they get a new one, don’t expect gourmet food. It is showing signs of its past as a very upmarket B&B that never moved on. The room had tatty 1971 magazines, only queen beds and no TV, mini bar or fridge. It now needs refurbishment to make it a top class hotel. Having said that, there is nothing bad. It is a great place to stay. But until they sort it out, the price may just be a tad too much for Panama?

On our second visit to Pedasi we stayed at Villa Camilla. It's clearly the fanciest place in town. Tasty food, superior service and a wonderful architecture are the plus points. The entrance courtyard and the dinner table at the head of the pool are delightful. The staff really is very attentive, charming and competent. It's located about 1 km from a spectacular beach.

Yet it does not get a 10 in my book: it's overpriced (for Panama) and the place needs maintenance. At this price point there can be no burned-out lighbulbs, no in-room safe that does not work properly - nada. The beds are Queen, a bit small for our taste.

We have spent the last month and a half in Panama visiting friends in addition to enjoying the plethora of activites and sights the countryside has to offer.

Our first stop was Park Eden Bed & Breakfast Inn in El Valle, Panama. It is a lovely inn with beautiful gardens and charming Innkeepers (Monica and Lionel Aleman). They are wonderful hosts; who took the time to show us places of interests on a map and made us feel welcomed.

We stayed in a room in the main house where we were awaken to the aroma of breakfast being prepared and freshly brewed coffee. The room was spotless and the decor tasteful. Breakfast is served in a garden setting where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while enjoying a hearty and tasty breakfast.

We loved the quiet beauty of El Valle, the 74F degree weather, the mountains and the village. The flora and fauna of El Valle makes hiking or just strolling into town a magical voyage. Then at night, it turns into a star gazers' paradise.

Another wonderful experience was Villa Camilla in Pedasi. It is situated on a hilltop with exquisite views of the ocean. Seldom have we seen such spectacular sunsets. The accomodations were exquisite and the cusine superb. A must do: visit Iguana Island -
watch frigate birds nesting in addition to enjoying the beautiful island and gorgeous beach.

When we return to Panama, we look forward to visiting El Valle and staying at Park Eden as well as Villa Camilla in Pedasi.

Room Tip: I stayed at the Jacaranda suite and would request it again.

I´m reviewing the Villa Camilla as a restaurant and not a hotel (but I could not find a listing for it under restaurants). I was recently in the Pedasi and made arrangements to visit the Villa Camilla and have lunch. You need to make prior arrangements for lunch or dinner, as everything is done to order and the focus is on individual pampering. The lunch was spectacular (a spicy carrot soup, a white fish that was succulent, and a great chocolate dessert). We could see the Pacific Ocean past the beautifully manicured lawns and dramatic swimming pool. I had read of the hotel but couldn´t stay the night this time around--but certainly hope to in the future. The managers were kind enough to show me some of the rooms and I was overwhelmed. I don´t know when I have seen such a beautiful, eclectic and tasteful selection combining Europe, the Americas and North Africa. They were clearly designed by an artist and not a knock-off, standard hotel designer. It has just a few rooms and would be ideal for a family trip or someone just wanted to "drop out" of the world for a while in absolute, understated luxury. It reminded me of some of the pricey "auberges" in the south of France in the hills atop the Mediterranean. There are also some villas on the beach, but I did not visit them. The current road needs some work, but when I was there, there was some work being done to put it in good shape. Nearby is the magnificent "Playavenao"--beautiful and great for simple surfing (but be careful with the stingrays that can bury themselves under the sand in areas where the water is not deep and you can accidentally step on one. Everyone later told me I should move the sand a lot when walking in low water to wake them up and get them out of the way.)

There is the main Villa with seven luxury rooms, beautifully done. Then the beach villas and beach lofts. We had one beach villa and one beach loft for our family. While the beach lofts were located beach front the actual room is uncomfortable with strange things like no bedside lamps ... You got to read with the main lights on full and then get up and walk to the other side of the room to turn them off. So simple bad design. But was nice enough. The villas are bigger and more comfortable and cheaper. Breakfast is basic. In fact the food isn't great. We had picnics packed and they were not good. You can do better yourself at the store up the road. Or if you ask Maudy of the smoothie bar in pedasi to set up a picnic hamper for you she would do a better job. Pedasi has some lovely restaurants to visit and only 20 mins drive. The beach at villa Camilla is lovely. Swimming great. Staff friendly. I do recommend it. We had a lovely stay. Kids loved it.

If you want a get-away this is the place to go. You can enjoy being there by just having anything else to do. We enjoyed our second visit because the house is still well taken care of and the garden has this delicious Ylan Ylan flowering tree. Took another room which we also enjoyed a lot. The place is full of books and magazines three decades old!!! It was very relaxing...again. Nice, casual service; you really feel at home, like staying there forever...
But we really missed the Chef. Some desserts like the red berries tart or the trifle were obviously taken "out of a box". When you choose to go to Villa Camilla you expect to have quality fresh food prepared at home, so we would like to have a Chef back there to complete the experience.
Thanks a lot for sharing your home with us. We definitely expect to visit you again!
