“Where the Buffalo roam sometimes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2010

This park is a beautiful and well kept national park. We drove the wildlife loop on our second day in South Dakota and we were disappointed not to see any Buffalo. However we did come across several burrows that came right up to our car. The drive itself is very scenic and we had really hoped to see more wildlife so our first time through was a bit of a disappointment. On our last day in Rapid City we decided to once again try the loop. Wow were we lucky. We drove almost the entire loop and almost to the end we came around a corner and saw hundreds of Buffalo's. It was so very cool and we were very glad that we drove the loop a second time. Remember that this is an open range park and that the animals will not always be right by the roads. We enjoyed this area very much and if you are in the park another must see area is Sylvan lake. The rock formations around the lake are beautiful and we found ourselves taking pictures of the same view over and over again. It is truly a wonderful place to see and I think that it was my wife's favorite spot that we visited. If I ever get back to South Dakota I will certainly visit this park again.

“GORGEOUS and Well Run”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2010

We traveled in September, 2010, and while the weather was variable, this gem of a park is beautiful, well run, clean, well maintained and a gem. Lots of activities, two restaurants, beautiful roads (try the wildlife loop - bring some carrots for the wild burros who will aproach you for a treat) and check out the Buffalo Roundup in late September. Near Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse memorial, this park is perfect for tent campers or RVs but advance reservations are a MUST so Google the reservation service. They were knowledgeable and accomodating. Enjoy this beautiful park. . .

“Custer Park where were the Buffalo?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2010

My family and I went to Custer National Park and saw 3 buffalo. We drove and drove and drove and saw only three. The Rangers or acting Rangers at the park didn't tell us anything to help us find them. At Wall Drug on the way home someone told us they accidently found them. They said the Rangers were summer helpers and didn't care if they saw anything or not.
I went the the Park to see Buffalo and was very disappointed.

“This is a must see and do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2010

We stayed in the city of Custer when visiting the Mt Rushmore area. Custer State Park is wonderful. There is an admission fee but it is good for one week.

The Wildlife Loop is the best and it is my favorite. We had bison walking along side of our car. The 'begging burros' had just had babies the night before but were still as friendly as could be and 'begging ' for food. It also includes the Needles Hwy and Iron Mountain Road. These are scenic byways that shouldnt be missed. There is so much to do. We were limited on time so we drove thru as much as we could but didnt get to stop

Oh gotta love this place. Lots of Bison and the donkys are a riot. We went back twice just to see the Donkys. They are our friends andlove animal crackers. Still laughing after several days.
