“Great Budget Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2011

Stayed at the Comfort Inn Baronne St., for Jazzfest. Booked thru Comfort Inns directly and was advised of a good discount as a member of the NEA (which I would not have known about if I hadn't called). This is a great budget hotel. My room (suite) was large with a desk area, couch, table, queen bed. Had a frig, microwave....The room was clean and basic and I have no complaints. The staff was wonderful....helpful, pleasant; I had called ahead due to late arrival and all went smooth. The breakfast was OK ; coffee, muffins, etc. Location was safe and conveinent. Great cafe (pizza) across the street. If you're in NOLA to sit in a plush hotel room go elsewhere; if you're there to enjoy the town and have a comfortable place to rest stay here.

we paid for a twin queen room, when we got there they said they did not have any. We landed up with an terrible dark, dingy room and were kept awake with the air con outside the window. We have travelled America and always stay Comfort and it is the worst one we have stayed in. They were the only ones that did not have de cafe coffee, they had creamers in packets, all the others have proper milk, they only had two juices at breakfast, we felt the management were trying to make every penny they could, I would only stay there if I was absolutely desperate. Very very poor, and we were very disappointed. M from the Wiral.

Room Tip: we booked early and still got a crap room

the bed cover was very dingy in my room and the couch was very dirty... but other than that it was a very good stay... we didnt sit on the couch and we removed the spread and there was a blanket on the bed and that was nice n clean... also the jacuzzi didnt work in my room. so basically if ur looking to stay all day in the room which i highly doubt in new orleans, then go somewhere else... but im not a picky person, i had a great time in new orleans, and the hotel staff was very nice and the breakfast was luvly aswell. so i give it a thumbs up.

Lodging:
The hotel staff always treated us well and housekeeping did an excellent job. There is a little bar off the lobby and right across the street is a barista coffee house, which was perfect for starting the morning! Settling in to our 2-bed room we discovered the TV did not work. I went to the front desk and Michael looked at me funny when I asked if they had one we could swap.
He insisted on changing (and upgrading) our room. Thank you Michael!!! The original room was a typical budget room, very clean, with the usual carpet wear and tear etc., one window/no view. The upgrade was a corner room, spacious, with a glimpse of the Superdome (about ¾ mile away).

Location:
Its $33 to take a cab from the airport or twenty-something ‘apiece’ to take an airport shuttle. There is a downtown city bus right outside baggage that costs about $2.50 each. We opted for the bus. It stops a lot, took about 40 minutes, and gets you to the downtown/financial district on Tulane St. From there it was a few blocks walk rolling our carryon’s to Baronne Street and then a few blocks more to the hotel (a suitcase would be a pain but one could take a cab from the bus stop). The cab ride back to the airport departing early Saturday morning took about 25 minutes (drive times vary depending on time of day and week…ask the front desk for details).
Canal St. is the main downtown artery and a border of the French Quarter. You can ride the Canal St. street car for $1.25 all the way to the river…a good deal!
The hotel is about 6 blocks off Canal. You walk by the Astor and the Hilton, the neighborhood is nothing special but we felt comfortable. At night, coming from the quarter Carondelet St. is busier and might make one feel more secure.

This was our first trip to NOLA. We wanted to go somewhere warm and the French Quarter Festival looked like a neat music experience. We started planning in January and were surprised at how many places were filling up. For our budget we wanted something well below $200 and we wanted something close to the French Quarter. We locked in the Comfort Inn downtown and continued to shop around a few more weeks. NOT. The festival is a huge event so book early.

Room Tip: book early for French Qtr. Festival

Stayed with friends during Mardi Gras 2011. Excellent location, friendly/helpful staff and great security. Initially had an issue with a/c cutting off, but Michael, front desk manager took care of it immediately. Thanks!! We will be back again:)

I was anxious about staying at this hotel after reading previous reviews--but we were pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's definitely a 2.5/3 star hotel, but we had more amenities than our friends staying at the Sheraton. The Wi-Fi was free and there was a fridge AND microwave in the room (had to pay $6 and $34, respectively, at the Sheraton). The parking is off site and there is no valet, but we just loaded everything out of the car before parking, not a biggie. Our room was pretty large but the "queen" bed was actually a full. It was centrally located and took us less than 10 minutes to walk to Bourbon. We didn't spend a ton of time in the hotel (who does in NOLA?), so for the price I thought it was a decent option. I would stay there again if on a low-budget.

We booked for a week and after first day regretted it. Their parking is 2 blocks away, We had to park on the street and make sure we were out there at 7am to put money in the meter ($3 for two hours). Two bed rooms have only full size beds. If we wanted queen beds we would get a room with one queen bed and therefore a smaller room. No king size beds. Pressure in shower is ridiculous and tub does not drain. It takes about 30-45 minutes to drain. I complained, no one came to see about it. Light over vanity would not come on unless i flicked the switch at least 10 times. Look out the window and see only buildings, no good view. For a downtown hotel, needs updating.

good points: cleaning lady left room very clean, fresh fruit in lobby; fridge in room; cable tv.
