i just returned from my annual december visit, to post-katrina new orleans. my nights were spent at the above referenced guest house, which i enjoyed very much. like many properties, in new orleans, they had roof and water damage and are presently short of help. the staff was very pleasant and helpful. the place was clean and well taken care of.[still some hurricane damage] it is located on st charles ave.[mid-town/university area], across the street from tulane university. across walnut street is audubon park, and aways further audubon zoo. the st charles street car stops right outside the door.[the streetcar route is presently being run with buses] one thing to keep in mind is that this guest house was built in the 1880's as a guest house, and is like a big old mansion, no elevators and no bellhops, not a new hilton. my room was furnished with antiqes and quite comfortable, also had plenty of lights and lamps. i will visit them again.

With a location as nice as they have I guess they've decided they can forgo the idea that a hotel is about customer service and making things nice for guests.

The staff was openly hostile. In a city known for hospitality you have much better choices than this.

I'm an Auditor that frequently travel all over the U.S. I have never stayed at a hotel or B&B that would not allow early check-in if the room is ready. The Manager (Sheila) of Park View B&B would not check us in even 1 minute early. My daugher and I flew a red-eye from Los Angeles Thursday and arrived early Friday morning. My Thursday began at 4:30 am and ended without sleep because the flight was uncomfortable. After arriving New Orleans Friday at 4:15 am we ate breakfast and my daughter performed a scheduled music audition at Tulane Univ. We arrived at the hotel very tired around 1:00 pm thinking that if the room is ready then we could check-in. Count for yourself the hours we went without sleep (Thurs 4:30am to Fri 2:00pm). The manager would not check us in so we slept sitting up on the sofa located in the lobby. At exactly 2pm my name was called to receive the key. I was so mad that I promised myself that I would never stay here again. My daughter starts school in the Fall and I will be staying at Mandevilla B&B. The Mandevilla B&B located 7716 St Charles Ave. will allow early check-in and are friendly to customers.

We loved the idea of staying at an Historic site and the pictures on the net looked appealing. The location is perfect for peace and quiet even with the street car whizzing past throughout the day, yet it's really close enough to all the "action". The staff for the most part is friendly. and the rooms are clean (our group rented 4 rooms). Someone (we believe a staff member) with a key to each room helps themselves to money in purses left in locked rooms at breakfast time however. What about that back stairwell? I guess it has more uses than getting to the ice machine! Our group lost more than $250.00 in one morning (for Canadians that translates to alot of money) which really put a spin on the rest of our trip as this was the first day of a 10 day trip. Other guests reported theft to the police the day after our report and we heard of a complaint the week prior. I can't help wondering how many other people didn't bother to report because they thought they had truly "lost" their money as one guest we had talked to said. Maybe the problem has been rectified by now but my advice is to beware!
