As a Hilton Gold Honors member I stay almost exclusively at Hilton Branded Properties. I spend approx 200 nights a year in Hotel rooms across the US. I'm very disappointed in this property.
People on here have gripped about the parking fees and such, but really got me going is the lack of housekeeping services.
After being here 6 days and my room only being serviced once (and very poorly might I add) There was no fresh towels, no coffee or trashed emptied. I called the desk a few times and they took care of it. But no one ever mentioned that I would have to call every day!
This is totally unacceptable in my book. I recently stayed at The Phoenix Sheraton and they have a door hanger that says if you don't your room services to hang the tag and they will credit you $5 per day. But they always clean unless you ask them not to. This place is just the opposite.
They should let you know in some way that you need to request your room made up. As a professional traveler, I am used to the courtesies and etiquette of hotels. I tip (usually over tip) when appropriate including the housekeeper (usually $5-$15 a day depending on how much of a mess I make in the room).
Other pitfalls of this property:
They have a Market Place where u can anything from sundries to over priced wine and coffee. Its open until Midnight. However, they stop serving coffee around 9. Conducting business globally, I tend to up and working at all hours of the day. I don;t think its unreasonable to want coffee at 9pm. The girl was kind enough to make a pot for me after the machine finished cleaning. 25 minutes later i had a fresh cop of coffee in my hand. However, there was no milk or cream for the coffee. Only little creamers that were in the soda cooler. Not a problem? big problem! They were so old that they turned to cottage cheese and stunk as soon as i opened it and dumped into my long anticipated coffee. OK so no cream, but there little 1/2 pints of milk. When i asked if i could open one for my coffee, the girl said i would have to pay for it. It was terribly overpriced as was everything else in the store. Really? Well thanks for wasting 45 minutes of my life! I put the other 6 or 7 overpriced items and left. There is no where in NOLA to get coffee after 9pm. Luckily, the front desk came to my rescue and found some Lavazza and self stable creamers for me.
Location - Its away from Bourbon Street and all that craziness and its not far from the Convention Center. Both are a walk (at least 8-10 blocks) Walkable for your average person. Its also right across from Harrah's. You can walk to just about anywhere you may want to go from here, Riverwalk, Jax Square, French Quarter, WWII Museum, Aquarium, IMAX. But one thing you may want to know is that the hotel sits right on train tracks and around 2am every night a freight train rumbles through blowing it whistle and all of the noise. I was on the 25th floor and heard it all.
Other then teh above, its pretty much your standard Hilton. Large room with decent lighting, Comfy bed yada yada yada. The lack of house keeping is truly a surprise. Hilton is a full service brand - i expect full service for $259 a night.
