“Great location, clean rooms, and friendly staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

The rooms were nice, as well as clean, and the location was near the river and a short trolley ride from the French Quarter. The staff was very helpful and we definitely enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had three families with 4 rooms reserved two month before our intended arrival date during the week of Christmas. We had confirmed reservation for 4 rooms before our Caribbean cruise. Upon arrival, we were told that they had no rooms for us (given no reason other than they were full). We were only offered taxi fares (which it wasn't even enough for our limo driver who was waiting outside for about an hour trying to sort things out). Finally, we were told to go to Embassy Suites and when we got there, we were told that they also don't have rooms and wanted to send ut to another Hilton property. I have been staying at Hilton for over 25 years, and this is the worst I have ever been treated. Finally, we were given a staff's room, which had no window a very small bed for myself and my son who is about my size. One of the family had a room that had no A/C, even though we were informed the defective A/C, but we took it anyway since we don't want to move to another property. Another family of 2 adults and 2 young children had to share one bed. The nice staff at the Embassy Suites did offer us free dinner (actually the offer only cover half of out bill), but still, it was a nice gesture. Eventually, Hilton Riverside contacted me and offered two nights at Hilton Riverside for a future stay. That of course is meaningless, I have only been in New Orleans twice in the last 30 years, and had no plan to return to New Orleans in the next few years. What a horrible experience. I don't recommend anyone staying at this terrible place. How can a reputable hotel cancel a confirmed reservation that was made two months before the arrival date and nearly ruined a Christmas vacation for 3 families.

Room Tip: Confirmed reservation means nothing here.

Just completed my 10th trip to New Orleans and this is my first time staying at this hotel. While the hotel is adjacent to the French Quarter and the Business District, its biggest draw is that it in fact Riverfront. Note, that not all rooms are river front or river view. Members of our party had nondescript views of parking decks, skyline views, etc. ( I did luck up and get a river front room). The room had two double beds and was not exactly spacious.

The decor of the hallways is in need of major updating. The carpets are worn and starting to fade. The wall paper is decades old and detracts from the quality of the hotel.

Staff are friendly and check in was quick and efficient. The mattress was a bit firm for my liking, but it was not a complete rock.

A good draw for the hotel is that the Riverwalk, with shops, restaurants, etc. is nearby. There is also a Riverfront Street Car stop on the property, so it is easy to catch the Riverfront Street Car. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance as well.

On our last day, my roommate opened a towel, which was folded, on top of the shelf in the shower, and it was completely soiled with black soil and dirt (see photo). We complained at check out and were given a voucher for one free night when we return, but neither one of us wants to return.

You can likely find a nicer hotel in the same vicinity for the same price (if not a better price). Rather disappointed as I am a Hilton Honors member and expect much more from Hilton.

Room Tip: Request a river front room. It is going to be a considerable walk from the elevator, but worth it f...

I booked this as a companion to a Southwest Airline trip which I thought would be an advantage. Upon arrival in New Orleans, we quickly found a cab to bring us to the hotel (this is the cheapest way to get to a hotel only $33 per couple vs. the Airport Shuttle which is $35 per person ). Since we arrived at 8 am, I was expecting to park our luggage before we could get into our room, to my surprise we were able to check in immediately. Now for the challenge! Although we had booked a Riverview room, we were told that we were assigned a room on the 4th floor without a view. It took me showing my confirmation information Plus insisting on a call to the manager before we were given a room on the 11th floor overlooking the Mississippi River. Now, for the price being paid for the room, it's anything but glamorous---not. The furniture was well worn, the bathroom door could not be closed unless you did a "end around end" twist. The TV took computer knowledge to figure out and the room was anything but a bit above average.

Room Tip: Be specific on what you want and be insistent!

janskr,

Thank you for choosing us as your New Orleans destination. We enjoyed having you here and look forward to seeing you again during a future visit to New Orleans. Our apologies for any miscommunication regarding your accommodations. We certainly do our best to accommodate all our guests with their requested room types however as a convention level property sometimes it can be difficult. When reservations are made room type requests remain requests until time of check in. I am happy to hear that you able to check in before our 3pm check in time. All of our guest rooms in our main tower were renovated this past summer and we are very proud of our new rooms. Hopefully you find another opportunity to return and enjoy our new product with us.

The best of the upcoming Holiday's to you and to your family.

This was my 5th time staying at this hotel. I've had 30+ hotel stays in 2012 and this is one of my favorites. I like the location - on the river and near Harrahs, the convention center and Canal St. Upgraded and stayed on the club level (29th floor) which is elegant, very high end decor and great views of the Mississippi. The hotel is also right by the Riverwalk indoor shopping area. Top notch service through my stay. This is a big hotel (I think 1500 or so rooms) so if you are looking for a small boutique hotel this wouldn't be for you. The rooms and common areas are very clean and up to date. Large, full scale fitness center.

It's about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the French Quarter and Garden district area which works well for me. Lots of good restaurants nearby and the hotel restaurants are good as well.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the river, make sure that the room you book has that. Also rates vary signif...

Really works for such a very large hotel next to (or really near to) convention center. Good public spaces; staff well organized. Decent restaurants - especially grilled oysters in Drago's. Lots of nearby shopping and of course lots of good restaurants within walking distance in the French Quarter.

We spent a few night at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. The location is great for the convention center and easy walking distance to the tourist sights. New Orleans is a pretty easy city to walk and see the sights. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. It was kept clean and tidy daily. We were in an executive room which allowed us to go to the executive club. Breakfast was served daily and there were snacks served during the day. There is coffee, tea ,sodas and water available all day. I think the club should be about three times larger, as it was really crowded at breakfast and hard to find a place to sit. The cash bar was pretty pricey. We have stayed in Hiltons on the executive levels in Europe and they never charge for alcoholic drinks. Maybe something the US Hiltons should think about. The view in the club was amazing. We enjoyed our stay at this Hilton.
