“Definitely a Find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

Each time we visit New Orleans, we try to stay at different hotels in different downtown areas. Generally we are pleased with our stay, but occasionally, we find a hotel that we love to suggest to our friends when they travel to NOLA. St. James Hotel is a true find. It is affordable, easily accessible, and charming in style and service. We walked to all the places around us with ease and even discovered a few new restaurants in the vicinity. From the bellmen who greet you as you drive up, to the polite and efficient front desk, to the cleaning staff, the hotel is a great place to stay. We had a corner room with three windows and loved it so much we recorded it for our next visit. Also, the Chophouse restaurant, which is attached to the hotel lobby, was always filled. We didn't have time to dine there this trip, but will definitely do so in the future. Even though this hotel is just a stone throw from the French Quarters, it is in a quiet area. Our sleep was never disturbed except for the average police sirens.

Room Tip: There are few room without windows. Make sure you avoid these rooms. The front desk was very accom...

We planned to stay here months in advance, but didn't realize that the weekend we were staying was a Saints game weekend. A lot of people were in town, which we did not expect. Nonetheless, the service that we got from Danielle, Amy, James, and everyone was spectacular. I've never had such great service at any hotel before. The room could have been cleaned a little better, but all in all we had a good experience. Not too many complaints.

I can't say enough about this hotel. We chose it because it was very affordable, but we were blown away by the hospitality of the concierge (James) and the front desk staff (Amy and Ashley). They took care of every request we made, helped us book attractions, and gave us great recommendations for restaurants. The hotel itself was very comfortable with a wonderful internal courtyard. We couldn't believe how close it was to everything we wanted to do in New Orleans, including Bourbon St, the Aquarium and the Riverboat dock. Highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here with the family in late September 2013. The service was superb. The women who man the front desk were always willing to go the extra mile for us. Our room was very nice, but the view out the windows was just a brick wall. The room was very quiet, except for the construction noise that started up at 7am each day outside in the alley below our room (a temporary problem, obviously). We would not hesitate to stay here again. By the way, the pool is REALLY tiny, but who has time for the pool in NOLA? The morning croissants were a treat, although each day our party of four received 2 croissants and 3 orange juices. The card used to request the morning breakfast had no spot to specify the number of people. No biggie, but a little odd.

Great location, very nice staff...
The breakfast delivered to the room was great...
The housekeepers need to pay more attention to details. The first day, we had no lotion, no TV guide, and one coffee. The next day I left a note and received lotion, and extra coffee, but no cups!!!!
The only other negative...the carpet is filthy. Bare feet not an option....

The St James Hotel is a very nicely maintained boutique hotel located downtown. The staff is extremely welcoming. The hotel is small but beautiful with a West Indies decor. Outdoor spaces include a charming courtyard just off the lobby and. small but pretty pool area. Our king room while not huge was spacious with high ceilings and tall windows. The bed was comfortable and the room was very well appointed with a new large flat screen TV, a small refrigerator and a microwave. Other special touches included a complimentary breakfast of hot croissants, jam and butter and choice of orange juice, coffee or tea delivered up to the room. That was nice. I also liked that the toiletries included a small bottle of mouthwash along with Bath and Body shop soaps, shampoo and conditioner. About the only thing the room lacked was a full length mirror ( a must for any hotel IMO). Also there were no newspapers in the lobby such as you'll usually find in other CBD hotels.

The location is quiet at night and close to the French Quarter as well as the Warehouse District. This is a great home base for foodies. The Bon Ton Cafe is right across the street. Chophouse steak house is accessible from the lobby. Le Foret, MiLa, Luke, Domenica, Herbsaint (great CBD restaurants all) are a couple of blocks away as are the wonderful restaurants of the Warehouse District.

The rate for all of this was quite reasonable compared to similar hotels in the neighborhood, especially since this was a busy weekend (Saints home game, kickoff to fall wedding season) and many hotels we tried were booked up.

My husband and I come to New Orleans frequently and like staying in the CBD. We had never stayed at the St. James before but we're adding it to our rotation after this pleasant stay.

My girlfriends and I planned a weekend trip to New Orleans months in advance. We called the hotel directly and booked with Danielle who was so sweet and upgraded us to a suite when she heard I was celebrating my birthday! When we checked in, there was Danielle again to make our experience fantastic right away! She gave us a map of the city and marked the best restaurants, bars, and places to see! She made sure we were taken care of in every way possible. Amy was so kind and funny! Every time we walked into the hotel she always asked where we were coming from and if we had a good time. These two are definitely major assets to the St. James! The hotel itself has an awesome location. We parked our car in Valet (and honestly never used it until we checked out). The croissants in the morning were a perfect start to our day! We will definitely be telling everyone about this hotel and will be coming back!
