“Good Hotel, Great Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

We wanted a location just off Bourbon Street, at a good price. Hotel St. Marie was perfect. We were on the top floor, room 514, which had a good view of Toulouse Street below. The room was very quiet and we slept well. We were there in late June and the air conditioning was adequate, but JUST adequate. A strange thing was that the bathroom has no vent fan, so the bathroom door is louvered. Not a huge problem, but it doesn't give as much privacy from the bedroom as some might prefer.

Nice courtyard with fountain and pool. There's an ATM in the lobby. Staff was friendly and helpful.

There's a little "quick shop" right next door that sells snacks and drinks, including beer for about $1.40 each, and they'll brown bag it for you so it stays colder as you carry it along the street. It took us a couple of days to get up the nerve to carry open beer on the streets, but it IS OK in NOLA!

We arrived late in the evening after a very long drive from Jacksonville. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Our second night there, a storm hit and we were caught on Bourbon Street. When we realized it wasn't going to let up any time soon, we ran for the hotel. When we walked in there was a stack of warm clean towels waiting on a table in the lobby for guests caught in the downpour. A small courtesy, but much appreciated.

There's a bar, restaurant, and deli just off the lobby on the first floor. The prices are about average for the neighborhood - next time I'll know to budget a bit more as it was all expensive compared to my home town. We had breakfast, lunch, and happy hour snacks, but did not try dinner in the restaurant. Excellent food and good service.

We upgraded to one of the king suites facing the street for our first night and it was worth every penny. The second night we moved to our 2-queen room and while it wasn't as spiffy, it was a lovely room. It IS an older hotel - the older part built in the 1800's, the newer in the 1940's - so if you're expecting a cookie-cutter Holiday Inn room you're looking in the wrong place. If you want to immerse yourself in a little history and have an experience instead of just a place to lay your head, this is the place to stay. I visited with a friend - I will definitely be visiting again with my husband and planning a longer stay.

Room Tip: The king suites facing Toulouse Street are amazing - in the part of the building that dates to the 1...

This charming hotel looks old, but has an elevator, air conditioning, and flat screen TV's. Pull up right past the building and into the small alley leading to the parking garage. The valet will allow you to unload the car and then you can enter the building through the door right next to his office. Once inside you'll wind your way to the friendly front desk staff. This hotel has a beautiful courtyard and pool that my teens enjoyed. The only negative thing is that there is not enough seating around the pool and it was VERY dark at night- no lights so swim early! It is very close to Bourbon Street and the noise, but you won't hear it. I could not believe how loud Bourbon street was at 10 a.m. on a Monday morning with all of the beer trucks making deliveries! Glad that didn't wake us up! We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and it was very good although a little pricey. The convenience was worth it! There is a full bar on site with inside seating. VERY clean sheets and good maid service! Don't expect modern, but charming and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a courtyard balcony and if you are renting two rooms ask for 220 and 221. They sh...

The St. Marie in the French Quarter is a value, and I recommend it. True to their promise, they switched out all the rather tired beds after my last visit and my king size bed with comfortable pillows made my week-long stay a pleasure. Rooms were serviced promptly each day with fresh towels, etc. if needed. NOLA hotels price rooms by the night. My week long stay averaged out at $108 a night plus taxes. With that you get friendly, accommodating staff, two on-site eateries -- a deli with breakfast baked goods, coffee, sandwiches and good pimento cheese -- and a full service restaurant, a courtyard and pool, and a garage for a daily fee. Family friendly. Rooms are of adequate size. Amazingly, it's just one block off Bourbon but you get little noise or overflow from the rowdy crowd there. On Toulouse close to Canal, the St, Marie is within easy walking distance of everything in the French Quarter as well as good restaurants, such as Cochon and August, and museums (including the WWII Museum) on the opposite side of Canal. We functioned well for a week without a car with an occasional cab ride. The St. Marie-- a small, overlooked value -- has sister boutique hotels throughout the French Quarter so if location is an issue, you have other sites to choose from which are also reasonably priced. Next trip to NOLA, I will be calling the St. Marie for reservations.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the courtyard and have small balconies. If you have a large party, there are ro...

We have stayed at this hotel twice. I would not consider staying anywhere else in the French Quarter. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is a great location within walking distance to many of the sites. I would recommend spending the extra money on a balcony room.

I went with friends to New Orleans for the weekend and we wanted to stay in the French Quarter at a reasonable price. This place was one of the few options we could find. Our average nightly rate was $160 plus taxes. Not cheap, but it WAS in the quarter near everything. The lobby was attractive as we came in - and there is a pool (not that I ever saw anyone use it), but the rooms are not nice, extremely dated, gross carpeting (I wore flip-flops to avoid touching it), shredded curtains, mysterious wet spots (really wet! no obvious source!) on the floor in our "dressing" area, an in-room safe that had to be busted open in order to retrieve items in our room...etc. That said, it was ok, and the staff generally did the best they could considering they were always seriously understaffed and it took a long time to do anything at the desk (check in, check out, etc). I stayed here because I could afford it, but if I were to go back to New Orleans, I would would look very hard for a suitable alternative.

Stayed here for a night in June. It was great. Clean and well kept facilities, great location, friendly staff. I have nothing but positives to say about this hotel. They even kept our bags for free while we spent the day walking about!

Room Tip: We got a complimentary upgrade to a courtyard room and it was very nice to have the balcony!
