“Wonderful charming hotel in the heart of the French quarter.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Just have a word for this rude 'thealee' that stayed march 7,2013!!!! Surely you have an agenda an it's to tear down one of the best hotels in the French quarter. U were probably the type of guest trying to get a free stay cause u r way off ur rocker. Don't listen to this moron. HOTEL ST.MARIE rocks and that's why they have been very successful despite negative reviews from pricks!! Stay at the Ritz if u want the best service around but the prob is u r to cheap to stay there&u want something for nothing! If u don't like it don't come back b/c there r way more positive reviews then ur negative stupid comments!! Great hotel, location, staff, etc!!

Visited and reviewed Hotel St. Marie in 2011. At that time we had two rooms, street-side and shared a large balcony with a table and chairs. The extra outside space made a lot of difference and I gave the hotel a good review

This visit we had a balcony room facing the courtyard. The courtyard is small and filled with dining tables for the hotel restaurant. The balcony was tiny and had no room for even one chair. When we first got off the elevator the first thing we noticed was a set of curtains that had been half ripped down, either by a guest or due to renovations. They remained in that condition during our entire stay. It would have taken housekeeping about 5-10 minutes to rehang them. To me, it just showed that they just didn't care. When we entered our room (#203) we were greeted by the smell of dirty feet. I sprayed my trusty Febreeze and opened the balcony door, but we were unable to rid the room of the funky smell during our visit. The carpet was very worn and I did not feel comfortable walking barefoot on it, thank goodness I had my flip-flops.One of the lamps and a leg on the nightstand was broken. The beds were comfortable, but be warned they do not provide a thick blanket or comforter and if you like to sleep in a cool room you should bring your own blanket. The vanity counter had a huge rust stain on it and there were several long black hairs in the tub upon our arrival. Yuck. The peeling wallpaper did not add to the bathroom's charm.

Yes, the location is awesome. The restaurant and coffee shop are great, service and food is awesome. The front desk is efficient and friendly with the exception of one gentleman who is strictly business. The bellmen and valets are hard-working and eager to please. The hotel is charming and I understand it is a boutique hotel and not a sterile chain. But at nearly $300 a night (a premium price for St. Patrick's Day weekend, maybe?) I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of our particular room. I think perhaps management needs to do some housekeeping in their housekeeping department.

This is a great location and has the potential to be a great hotel. Most of the staff was friendly. The room had the smell of a teenagers gym shoes. My wife was prepared with Fabreeze because of a previous stay but we had to spray the floor down every time we entered our room. The mattress appeared to be new but the carpet was dirty, we kept shoes on the whole time we were in the room. Second floor room so the elevator wasn't a problem. Attention to detail is what distinguishes a great hotel and this is lacking at Hotel St. Marie. The restaurant is nice and food good. The quick service deli on the street is a great feature especially for coffee in the morning, buy a cup and get refills all day for no charge. Will probably stay again.

Room Tip: Stay on the lowers floors in the main building. Balcony rooms nice size and allows fresh air in.

You can't get much closer to the Bourbon Street action than here but the Hotel is just OK. Jenn at the Desk and Tom at the bar were the best. Always had a smile and always glad to help. There were some "management " folks walking around in lobby everyday, but they never spoke with us.
When we arrived there was no door man so we had to drag our bags from the cab to the desk ourselves. Not a real problem but this hotel charged us 135 a night and this was off season. It is $300 + a night during Mardi Gras and St Patrick's. Housekeeping (or training of) is lacking. They woke us up at 8 am (This is a party place!) but the room was not cleaned til 2 pm. One day no shampoo or soap was left and one day the housekeeper complained about how we left the room! (we are not slobs, but we some left paper on the floor!).
The hotel is clean (rooms and lobby) but dated. Our room rugs were worn out (threadbare) and the drawers were coming apart. One room was missing the safe (this is an amenity that is advertised in the hotel ads.)
Food was good at the hotel and coffee bar.

Interesting note. When we checked out, the desk person asked if we liked our stay. We said yes (we were leaving), Then they handed us a card with Tripadvisor.com written on it! They asked us if we would give a good rating! I imagine if we did not like our stay, they would not have given us that card. This was underhanded I thought. Surprise. here I am!

There is a Sheraton down the street. I might try them next time.

My wife and I stayed here on March 9th thru 12th. The room was clean but dated. The carpet needed to be changed our. It looked dirty and was torn. The bed mattress needed to be replaced. It was worn and hard. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was good for the French quarter. Overall I would come back.

Hotel St. Marie has all the architectural charm and hospitality we expected , but not all of the noise from festivities of Bourbon St. . Just a short walk to get to most attractions , shops , activities in French Quarter and Riverwalk . Will definitely stay here when we return to NOLA.

Room Tip: Ask for room with street view balcony .

If you are on a tight budget and looking to be walking distance to Bourbon St this is the place to stay!!! Clean rooms, good beds. Make sure you book a room with a street balcony, is worth it!!!
Check in was fast, rooms were large enough ( you don't even spend that much time in it), there is an electronic safe which is a plus. We had to bring an extra bed to the room due to unexpected visit and still felt spacious. I didn't get to the restaurant, but again if you are not from town, go head and explore the local food. Check out was pretty fast, overall a good place to stay, def would go back.

Room Tip: Street balconies are huge set up with patio furniture
