Royal Sonesta New Orleans is always so consistently good, I wonder why I stay anywhere else. From the way the bellmen greet you at the curb, through the check-in/registration staff, followed by the room-cleaning crew - everyone treats you as a welcome guest with a precision, grace, and such a high level of professionalism that is evidently very hard to duplicate elsewhere. I've stayed at 8 or 9 hotels over the past 20+ years in the Quarter and off Canal, and no one does it better - excepting the Ritz-Carlton, which due to price is in a whole other world. But compared to the others in and around the Quarter, you cannot miss with the Royal Sonesta - the location is superb for foodies grazing and drinkers pub-crawling; the rooms are so clean and well-appointed; the beds are just right for sleeping; the showers have plenty of water pressure and hot water and are very spacious; and the hallways free of litter and the other unsightly detritus that seems to wash up onto other French Quarter hotels. The Rotal Sonesta truly understands the anticipation and the excitement of staying away from home in a far-away place, and they clearly do the best job of accomodating their clients. I heartily recommend the Royal Sonesta to anyone who appreciate both the value as well as the price - you can get a room for around $100 pretty much year-round - a bargain compared to all those other places nearby. If you choose to stay at the Royal Sonesta, I guarantee you will not be disappointed - are you willing to risk your hard-earned dollars and precious leisure/vacation time on something else that may not measure up?

We booked thru Orbitz, and realized there wasn't an option to request a balcony.
I called the hotel and spoke with a "Chris" who was curt, rude & told me that Iif I wanted a balcony, I should have booked thru them & not Orbitz. Then he hung up on me.

I called management, to see what they could do & they never returned my calls.
Our trip was rapidly approaching, no time to change hotels, so we stuck with what we had.

I asked for a non smoking room, but the whole floor reeked of cigarette smoke.
Everything else was clean...

When I got home I saw that the Hotel dinged our card for the stay when we already paid Orbitz for the stay, so were were double charged. Taht was another hassle to iron out.

Customer service needs to be addressed. I was willing to pay more for a balcony...rude staff at the desks, yet Bellhops & Doormen were very gracious.

I'd stay again, but may have to be more forceful with my wants & needs.

We went with a group of 8. We were all very pleased with the hotel. The only complaint that a couple of our part had was that they could hear the music from their rooms till about 4 in the morning. The room my wife and I had was on a side street. No noise there. The rooms were up to date and kept very clean. I would certainly return to this hotel on my next visit.

Had a great time at the Royal Sonesta. The location is amazing, right in the middle of all the Bourbon St. action. We had a great time laying out at the pool during the day which is a non-stop party (but in a relatively calm way - there are families and kids). We had a suite with a jacuzzi tub which was awesome. We thought we were going to have a balcony room so we had asked to switch but were informed that our room was much better so we stayed. The balconies are connected to 2 or 3 rooms so you are sharing it with whoever is next door which didnt sound too enticing (atleast not for a couple's trip). The only hiccup was when we arrived and there was some sort of bug in the shower (I think it was a waterbug). And on the second night I happened to look closely at the rug and saw small ants crawling around which was weird. The rooms seemed really clean so I wa surprised to see this. Overall I did have a good experience- looved the concierge - they were very helpful - and loved the bar in the hotel which had a great Jazz band!

We stayed here over 4th of July Weekend and had a great experience.

We booked one of the VIP floor rooms with the evening canapes and buffet (all delicious). I must say though that it is a little more laid back here in terms of attentiveness because being a New York-minded person I expect a 24/7 alert and awake concierge. However, things seem to die down here and there aren't as many staffers. All very nice folks but just not the same "bustle" as far as on-point, high maintenance service - which for the price I expect. Rooms are lovely, great central location and would stay here again.
