“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

Very nice hotel and right on Bourbon Street.. We did have kids but still was a great location in the middle of the action. Every one was very respectful of the kids while walking around in the evening. Very pretty rooms. Staff was very friendly and concierge was extremely helpful. I would definitely stay here again - with or without kids.

Room Tip: Choose facing the pool area. Our room was extremely quiet.

This hotel is in the middle of the action - on bourbon street in the french quarter. That means peep shows just outside the front door. So just not that great with little kids. Also, the walls were thinner than we expected - my kids were woken up to some woman's great theatrical screams of delight ;) Staff is great, valets are very helpful with directions. Fantastic gumbo from room service, but pricey as expected. Decor was nice, but not as nice as we expected for a 4 star. Pool not very kid friendly as there is no shallow end. Really, this is not a place for kids, as one would expect that most hotels in the french quarter are not for kids. Over all was great, though. Walking distance to almost everything!

Room Tip: If you want the night action get a outer balcony room - classic french quarter. If you want a room a...

This Hotel is top notch all the way. From the beautiful lobby, rooms and service, what more can you ask for, well how about location.....in the heart of the French Quarter. Step out the front door and you are on world famous Bourbon Street. Walking distance to anywhere in the quarter is no problem from this hotel. It also has 2 restaurants and a jazz club on property.

Room Tip: If you like excitement you can book a balcony room right on Bourbon Street. If like a more quiet st...

Excellent location right on Bourbon Street. Only positive things to say about our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Pool area was relaxing and the drinks from the Pool side Bar were excellent. Café had good coffee and food. Funny how we avoided the Desire Oyster Bar because it was the "hotel restaurant" . We finally ate there our last night for dinner and the food was AWESOME. Sorry we didn't eat there sooner. Had breakfast there the next morning before going home and that was also, good food. Did not try the Jazz Club restaurant, maybe next time. Our stay at this hotel was EXCELLENT overall.

I've stayed in the quarter over a dozen times and had always wanted to come the the Royal Sonesta. I love its oyster bar, the Desire. And its location is cental to the quarter. However for my wife and I walking down Bourbon street every night and each morning is less than an ideal beginning/end of the day. For others this is probably fantastic.
The hotel itself is well staffed with friendly, responsive people who seems to genuinely care about your experience there. Coffee shop and Jazz venue right in the hotel. The room (inside facing) was fine. Suspect a balcony room would be one of the ultimate bourbon street experiences.

Room Tip: Choose this hotel is you want to be on Bourbon and go for the balcony rooms.

In the heart of the french quarter directly on world-famous Bourbon Street lies the Royal Sonesta, a decadent gem that conjures up images of the original Dixieland Jazz Band to Louis Armstrong. The hotel is old. It is musty. Welcome to New Orleans. The hotel are in full uniform and accessorized with the best charm and manners the South has to offer. It is a truly magical experience to stroll through the lobby and take in the jazz music from the lounge and the sights and sounds of Bourbon as you step outside. It is clean, with small (all authentic rooms in N.O. are small, similar to NYC) but well appointed rooms. The tv is large and has an HDMI input so the boys can play X-box while the grown kids can go play on their own, knowing the kids are safe and happily ensconced inside our room for a few hours. As for the strip clubs, yes they are here...so you do need to valet and be aware. If you check in earlier, you won't have a problem, as the girls were not in the windows at 2 p.m. There's much more here to do than strip clubs. Music floats on the air everywhere, museums and tours abound, and there just is no other culture that can capture the love of music, food, and life as the soul of New Orleans. Love this property for being exactly what it should be...authentic, one of a kind, true southern comfort.

Room Tip: Specify what type of balcony during reservations because there are 3 kinds of balcony rooms here: co...

The Royal Sonesta is located right in the middle of everything on Bourbon Street. They are a full service hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. The service throughout is terrific....to include the bellhops, desk, restaurants and jazz club and especially the concierge. Special shoutout to Russell for his knowledge and assistance. I would definitely stay there again when returning to New Orleans. Note: They have live jazz music on site and a PJs Coffee shop as well as 3 restaurants and a few shops. No need for a rental car; the French Quarter can be easily explored on foot, the riverwalk and cruise port is walking distance, and Harrah's Casino is nearby also.

Room Tip: I made the mistake of having a room with no view. I would ask for a room on Bourbon Street to view...
