“Royal treatment at the Royal Sonesta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the RS. From first driving up and being greeted by Malcolm, the best doorman in all of New Orleans, to check-in, to the excellent bellman Shaun, it was outstanding all the way. We had requested a room on the "quiet" side of the hotel and we were given one. The room was spotless, well lighted, and attractive. The bed was just what we like, but the pillows were too soft for me. My wife travels with her own pillow. Plenty of hot water with very good pressure, and a perfect job by housekeeping every day. All the staff was friendly, attentive, and went the extra step to make sure needs were met. The various dining and bar venues were great as well. This hotel is right on Bourbon Street, so you can access that instantly. Also, short walks to many of the attractions in and near the French Quarter. We'll stay here again any time we come to New Orleans.

Room Tip: We had been told by prior guests that street side rooms can be noisy, so we requested a quiet room a...

We spent 3 days on Bourbon St and decided to stay on the strip. After researching the options we were a bit worried from the various reviews. This was mostly due in part that the general consensus were less than good. 2 of us opted for balcony rooms the last picked a garden view.

The lobby is very nice and welcoming, there are no coffee makers in room but there is a PJ's coffee shop in the hotel.

The balcony rooms did show wear but nothing that isn't expected due to the clientele. Our rooms all on the 3rd floor overlooked Bienville Ave which was ok - we requested rooms in close proximately. Street noise is minimum never were we woken up by street cleaning. The view was simple just looking at the property across the street. They did honor our request as the two balcony rooms were only separated by one room the third was around the corner. Balcony is sufficient we simply navigated the 3 ft gap between the 2 and could access the others room.

The garden view room overlooked the pool, was furnished like the other rooms. All beds were comfortable and the shower had nice water pressure.

Other than the coffee shop we only used the in house restaurant Desire Bistro & Oyster bar. We went for breakfast, the service was terrible. All 6 of us had food or drink spilled on us, including my wife getting burned from her tea. We did not return.

The pool was a nice option in the morning after a hard night, it is heated, during our stay the ambient temp hovered in the 40's and the water temp was about right.

The staff was courteous and welcoming, the door man was talkative which we dubbed "The Count"

We would stay again, location was spot on in regards to the night life.

Thank you for your review of our property. We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the local nightlife, as well as your balcony overlooking Bienville Street. We are, however, very disappointed to hear that your experience at Desire did not live up to your expectations. We are truly sorry that the service was not up to our Royal Sonesta standards, and we will be discussing this with our staff to insure incidents like this do not occur again. Please know that incidents like this one are isolated, and we usually hear great things about the service and food at Desire. We hope you will consider the Royal Sonesta when planning future travels, we would love the opportunity to create a more memorable experience for you.

The Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans is a GREAT place to stay. The staff is very freindly and helpful. The hotel is VERY clean. It is in the center of everything! Will continue staying there on my trips to new Orleans! Can't ask for a better experience!!!!! I especially LOVED that when we came back from the ULL game, the guy at the door asked to see our key, that way not just anyone can walk in...great protection for it's customers! Overall experience...AWESOME!!!!!!!!! The ones that were with me (I booked 2 rooms) said that they will now be staying at the Royal Sonesta on trips to New Orleans. Definitely feel safe at this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't get a room near the elevator LOL We went for the ULL game and we had ALOT of people there...

The room was small, and overlooking the street, so very noisy. Ask for a courtyard facing room if you want to get any sleep. The room was nicely decorated, but the shower had mildew which was gross.

They added $16 to my bill for bottled water in the room which I didn't even drink, so watch out for that after you check out. It took two calls to the billing dept to get this removed. The first time I called I left a message explaining the reason for my call which they never returned or took action upon. I reached them with my second call and they removed the charge without a problem, but I should not have had to call twice.

Also, the cab was not able to drop me off in front of the hotel because the street was blocked off when I arrived. I don't know if this is a normal occurrence, but it was a hassle having to drag my bags down the block.

I was there shortly before Christmas. The hotel was nicely decorated and the children's choir groups that performed in the lobby were wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard rooms if you value getting a good night's rest. Street view rooms are very n...

Thank you for taking the time to share this very important feedback and we appreciate your bringing these issues to our attention. We are very sorry for the billing error and the delay in correcting it. It is regular practice for our front desk staff to go over all charges with each guest at check-out, so our Front Office Manager will address this incident with his team to insure it does not reoccur. Bourbon Street does close to street traffic every evening at 5 p.m. but cab drivers may drop guests at our lower lobby which is accessible from Conti and Bienville Streets. Please consider the Sonesta again when planning future travels, as we would love the opportunity to create a more memorable experience for you.

It is nice to know what to expect. We have stayed at this property several times over 24years and thought this would be a great place to celebrate and we were very pleased. From the start...easy to get into and park, check in and the Bellman service were top shelf on arrival and departure. Stayed on the third floor right next to elevator and never heard it, what you do hear are the loud people but, you will hear that everywhere. Room was refurbished and we understand it is a rolling update of the hotel. It is close to everything so, don't get the car out unless you really need to. The restaurants on site are great, Desire is as good or better than Acme without the wait and Revolution has the foodies talking. We will stay again and again as this is our favorite romantic hotel in New Orleans.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are quiet compared to the street sides. It was cold and the pool was not the pl...

Arrived New Year's Day expecting a nice hotel. Our Deluxe room had peeling wall paper and you could hear the toilets flush in several rooms around. No coffee maker in room and when coffee was ordered after 45 minutes we went and found some elsewhere. Day two of our stay our room was cleaned till after 6 PM. I was told over and over they had just been busy. I get that but why should I pay top dollar for a room with 2 star service. Won't be back. I could had gone to New York or La and stay in a better quality room for much less. Sad

Room Tip: I would stay at the Intercontinental...

This was a nice hotel with great location. It can be loud at times due to the location being right in the middle of party central. I would come back. A little pricey. I am already looking for my next trip to NOLA and I can't wait!
