“Stay away from this place unless you want to get really drunk”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

I was here for a conference so I had little choice. This hotel would be my last choice, to be honest. Difficult to reach, no parking (luckily I arrived by taxi), Bourbon street full of noisy and mostly drunk people, especially after 10 PM till 3 AM. Then comes the noisy street-washing machine wiping away all the filth and trash. No, this is awful. Unless again, you want to simply get really drunk and roll into your bed.

Room Tip: Simply stay away, change your mind. And if you really have to stay here, take a room away from the s...

We booked this hotel via TravelZoo to try a hotel, in that we typically stay on NOLA at a B & B. What a beautiful hotel. Fantastic lobby with wonderful flowers and chandeliers, clean rooms. We took another reviewer's suggetsion and stayed in a courtyard room...very quiet, very classy, very clean, etc etc. In-room safe installed for valuables in the room, Helpful employees for sight-seeing and restaurant suggestions. We can't ay enough positive things about this hotel. Hey, the restaurants are very pricey, but you are aware of that in that the menus are posted and there is enough other food in NOLA. You cannot beat the loction, right on Bourbon St and we felt very safe. Frankly, we have no criticism whatsoever!

Armina was very helpful in accommodating my request to switch rooms. My favorite Hotel in New Orleans was even better this time around! The pool is very peaceful at night if you want some peace and quiet (see pic below).

Room Tip: If you want some peace and quiet, request an interior room. Not Bourbon Street side. If you are a...

Bourbon Street may be crazy, but all felt safe and right inside the Royal Sonesta. We were delighted by our upgrade to the club floor which had a breakfast buffet and night time canapes and cocktails. The club floor had its own delightful dedicated concierge named Daron who was great. We also really liked the recommendations from another concierge named Milton. When I wanted a special hands on cooking experience he told me that another guest had enjoyed "The Empty Plate" a class inside someone's home. (The class was seriously delicious and the ladies who taught it were fun and sweet and my husband and I will definitely go back next visit to NOLA.) Here is when I fell in love with the RS: Milton was off duty when it was time for us to head to class and when we asked the bellmen for directions to the class, they kind of freaked out because they had never heard of such a class in a home and it was making them nervous. One of the bellman named Wilbert happens to have a second job driving a cab, his fellow bellman said, "Wilbert what time will you be getting out of church?" and he said, "Well what time do y'all need to be at your class?" I said, "6:15" and he said, "Then I will be here at 6." He drove us there, got out of the car came up to meet/inspect the teacher and the set up. He asked what time class might be over and said he would be back to get us, wouldn't let us pay until we were home safe at the hotel, shook hands with our cooking teacher and let her know that we had folks watching over us in NOLA. He barely charged us anything and it was clearly his night at home with his family, but the Bell team was concerned that we were naively going off somewhere that might be dangerous. We were genuinely appreciative and everyone at the hotel loves Wilbert with good reason. On our last day as we were heading off to Mississippi the kindly doorman at the hotel wished us a safe journey and gave a big hug like you would get from a family member and it gave us a great closing memory for our stay. Even though my husband hated Bourbon Street he agreed that the service at the hotel was so special he wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: The club floor not on Bourbon Street side was awesome. I didn't hear a bit of street noise.

You will get no sleep. Drunks from Bourbon Street whoop and holler all night long as they wander under your windows. One particular group of eight were screaming at each other, reaching a crescendo at 4 AM. They finally passed out around 5:30 AM. BUT at 6:15 AM a hotel employee started a generator (sounded like a jack hammer) to power wash the sidewalk where 'revelers' had relieved themselves. The gang of 8 was still slumped against the hotel, sleeping. Finally at 7 AM a hotel employee in a very loud voice tells them to leave. We have been up since 2 AM; why didn't the hotel do something about it when we asked them to?

My wife and I stayed from Halloween night, Oct 31 through Nov 5. We arrived at around 3:30 pm and the room was not ready so they asked for my cell number, gave us two drink comps for the bar next door with our room keys, took our luggage and said to go relax, have a drink on them and they would call us when our room was ready. Two hours pass and no call. When we go back to find out the status we are given a different room, comps for 4 more drinks at the bar next door, and told they will bring our luggage up to our new room. It was a nice room. My only complaint is that there was no refrigerator in the room so we requested one that cost us $12.50 a day! For the price you get the location, right on Bourbon Street. If that is what is important to you, then this is the hotel for you! Otherwise ... Meh.

Just spent a relaxing week at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street, November 2013. We had stayed here before but had forgotten how nice it was. From the minute you walk in until you leave you are attended to from roses on the bed when you check in to turn down service in the evenings and delightful chocolate treats. Rooms are spacious and kept spotless with nice quality bed linens. Towels could be upgraded, first day 2 of the towels were nice but went down from there! Sitting on the balconies in the evenings is wonderful. All of staff were pleasant and helpful. Would be nice to have a coffee maker in room for late night tea or coffee, even though during the day PJ's in the lobby has excellent coffee. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Higher floors are nice, better views. Rooms with Balconies street side tend to be noisier at night b...
