“Great Lunch Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

Stopped in Mayas for a quick lunch. The fish tacos are the best we've had anywhere. Everything was fresh and flavorful. A perfect casual lunch.

“Great place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012 via mobile

I have two things. One, the food is amazing. Great drinks and location. This place deserves a much higher rating than what it has. I know a tad about this considering im a restaurant manager. I have spent many nights in this restaurant.

TWO...... The person below knows nothing about authentic. Im talking to you Ms. (or Mrs.) Castro. Many of my friends including my spouse are from Central America or surrounding area. What I have at this place is authentic as you will find unless my dear you are in Costa Rica. So, please, dont bash something you know not of CAUSE THIS IS THE REAL DEAL

“Cute Spot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

Food was good. Highly recommend the soft shell crab app. However, it takes forever to receive your drink. The server explained that all drinks were made with fresh ingredients, thus causing the delay. But nearly 10 minutes for a mojito and a caipirinha seemed excessive. I actually considered ordering my 2nd cocktail upon receipt of the first. Seems like it would be a great place to go with a bunch of friends for tapas and perhaps wine (vs. mixed cocktails).

“Fun place for mojitos and latin dishes -- don't order the lobster paella.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

We liked the restaurant very much. Mojitos, as the reviews said, were terrific. We had the tamal corillo and the empanadas with mushroom and empanadas. They were great and empanadas definitely worth the extra money. Main course of lechon (pork braised) was quite good and the plantains on the side were the best we ever had. Service was good; the restaurant was nicely decorated and had a neighborhood feel.

However, the waitress talked us into ordering the lobster paella, which was nearly twice the price of regular paella and not worth it. It was salty and the delicate lobster flavor was completely overwhelmed. Also, it was served with the lobster in a shell, but not with the accoutrements that one needs to crack lobsters. They gave you a nutcracker, but no bib, no extra napkins, no lobster or picking forks. Clearly they had not thought through how a diner was going to get the lobster out of the shell. Also, the lumps of lobster (which was well done), were large and just kind of sat on top of the paella when you got done pulling it out with your fingers.
