I went to school in New Orleans and married a guy from the city, so staying at a hotel in New Orleans (for a business trip) was a first for me! I chose the Westin because of the location.
My room overlooked the Riverwalk and the Mississippi. I loved being able to hear the calliope on the steamboats play because it's not something you hear every day (please note: you can definitely hear the boats and the calliope from your room, but thankfully it's gone by night time). However, my room had ventilation issues, and the bathroom, though clean, was a bit rundown. My business trip took me to Baton Rouge for a few days before returning to New Orleans, but by the time I left for Baton Rouge, my allergies were at full-on attack, so I chose to stay at Loews on the tail-end of my trip instead of returning to the Westin.
I heard that the Westin was in the process of renovating rooms -- not sure if that's a rumor, but if it is, perhaps the room I stayed at was one of the older, not-yet renovated rooms. With that said, the location of the hotel is great, and if your room does not have ventilation issues, it is a great place to stay. I'm sad it didn't work out for me.
