My 40th birthday trip to NYC was cancelled due to Storm Nemo. We decided to drive over to New Orleans (from Tallahassee, FL) as a backup plan. It was Mardi Gras weekend. I felt fortunate to find a room available on a third-party booking site for $200 a night. Upon check-in, we were informed that there was also a $40 a day valet parking fee (even though it was posted as $32 outside) and a $9.95 resort fee (wtf?!) that included local and long distance calls, wifi, and a safe in our room. So that is another $150 on top of the already ridiculous per-night cost? Uh, okay. The room was in dire need of updating. The bathroom ceiling was moldy and rusted in areas. The brick wall also had what appeared to be mold on it. Again, I felt fortunate to find a room during Mardi Gras so I didn't complain. The first night we were awoken by the fire alarm in the middle of the night. I called the front desk and they weren't aware of the alarm going off and said I didn't need to leave the building. Our ice machine on our floor never worked. It also just happened to be outside our door and was beeping all day Saturday and Saturday night. They finally stopped the beeping after I called about it but the ice machine never worked the entire time we were there. A maintenance person said that the machine hadn't worked in the 4 months he'd been employed there. The real kicker was Sunday night when I was attempting to take a shower and heard a rush of water overhead. The next thing I knew water was pouring into my shower from the ceiling. It was coming from the same area that was moldy. I guess this is an existing issue. Maintenance was called and said that someone in the room above us was taking a bath. So disgusting. Maintenance also acted like it wasn't a big deal and the issue just needed some "caulking." I swear the entire ceiling in that bathroom is going to fall in. After some extended debate, we did get refunded for our last night. We still paid over $650 for two nights in this less than desirable hotel. You would think they could update their rooms with what they charge. I am tempted to call and try to get more money refunded but I'm not sure I can get anywhere after reading other reviews. The front desk staff wasn't friendly upon check-in or with our issue Sunday night, so I feel like calling now would prove unsuccessful. Anyway, the location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. We were very close to the French Quarter. However, I would NOT recommend staying here! The hotel was a huge disappointment and a rip-off, even during Mardi Gras.
